This. Pickup retailing is an exercise in brand marketing. Sonic/tone differences between pickups in the same category are massively overstated. Most small differences can be ironed out with EQ tweaks or a very minor OD boost. Those same small differences are exploited by manufacturers with...
Check out the "7th Heaven" promotional video by Ibanez made in the late 1990s. It has a good commentary about the history of the 7, and includes sections from Steve Vai, Wes Borland, Dino Cazares etc. who were all users at the time. It's an interesting snapshot about the challenges of the time...
Congrats, it’s a nice guitar. And just a few days after I said the U Bar was a gimmick and was discontinued quickly (which it was), Ibanez have just announced its return on the new K7 at NAMM! So that’s a nice bonus…
K7: The blue finish, rosewood fingerboard and abalone neck binding looks great. I'm sure the chip on the back could be repaired to around 90%. It *may* hold its value better, but trends come and go as bands go in and out of favour. Over time, the Korn market will shrink, but may have higher...
Guitarists are not only afraid of innovation, many continue to focus on and place great value on things that make very little difference to their tone. We all suffer from it.
Is a modeller plus loud speakers an option? With modelling you’ll get infinite tones from dozens of amps in one unit. With amps, you’ll be limited to the voicing of that specific amp. Some amps are quite versatile, but it will always be a variation on a theme.
Bought a Parker from a dealer in Duluth in 2012. Got strung along for …….2 years. I knew Parker was having some production troubles so I gave the dealer the benefit of the doubt. A bit of background work revealed Parker wasn’t the issue, it was the dealer. In the end I demanded my money back...
Used Daddario for years mainly because the coloured balls made it easy. Then I found the e string would break just a little too often. Switched to EB and found them more reliable but dull. Tried NYXLs in recent years and suddenly realised they were far superior. More expensive but actually felt...
Parker Nitefly. It has the two SD humbuckers with 3 way toggle and coil tap, plus piezo which is controlled by another 3 way toggle. The switches are failing and that’s why I’d like to install the majesty switches because they’re so much better quality.
Thanks I'll definitely check out that site. BTW the On-on-On switch I am wanting to replace is in a Parker Nitefly with piezos. The On-Off-On switch I want to use comes from a EBMM Majesty which also has piezos. But they must operate in different ways.
Yes @odibrom that sounds right! I was thinking that logically it is just doing the same thing but in reverse. I will need to include coil tapping so maybe I'll still hit a brick wall, but thanks for the info!
