But guys, I did some research and it turns out the K7 is a 2001 build and has a thicker neck.

Now this is going to be a problem for me as i dislike thick neck hmm

K7, no doubt. Is it better, idk probably? But Korn was the band that got me into sevenstrings. So the K7 would be an instant win imo.

Tough choice. The K7 inlay does a lot to keep me away from it, but on the other hand mahogany RG7s are strangely rare, and I've always wanted an RG7620MBOL. Dunno which I'd choose.

I already own 2 Mahogany RG7s and believe me, they're not easy on the shoulder...

K7:
The blue finish, rosewood fingerboard and abalone neck binding looks great. I'm sure the chip on the back could be repaired to around 90%.
It *may* hold its value better, but trends come and go as bands go in and out of favour. Over time, the Korn market will shrink, but may have higher value (for fewer people).
If you like trems, the U bar will be limiting. It was a gimmick that will date this guitar, the U Bar was discontinued fairly quickly because the average player didn't have a use for it.

RG:
The finish is beautiful, and would look great under stage lighting.
Mint condition is always better for long term value.
You get full trem functionality.
Tone knob, but may not be important.

The neck won't be an issue because you won't have the other to compare in the moment. You might have a preference for thinner necks, but all Ibanez RG necks are on the thin side so you'll likely get used to either very quickly.

Bottom line, go for the one that you like the look of best!

Interesting. I guess those 2001-2004 models were 21.5mm at the 1st fret, later shaved down to a 19mm Prestige profile for the rest of production. That's one of the thicker neck profiles Ibanez ever made for a 7, 2+ mm thicker than most others; only the 9-string Wizard neck is made that thick these days. Notably, however, Vai's UVs from 1998-2002 had the same dimensions (I'm not sure whether it's the same profile).

Ibanez makes some of the thinnest necks in the industry, so bear that in mind. I probably wouldn't care as someone who likes a bit of variety. Go for the AHM if you figure it'll be a dealbreaker.

However, after some digging, I found a thread indicating that the neck information for the K7 on the wiki is incorrect. As usual, it should be 19-21mm. The profile was then changed in the 2005 productions

K7. One is a K7, the other is just a regular Ibanez 7.

You'll want to put a new knob on the K7 as that one isn't original and maybe do a hardware swap for gloss black at some point, the powder cosmo hardware wears really easily and the trem knife edges might be worn after 20 years. It might even need a refret or at least a crown and polish on the frets.

However, none of that matters because it's a K7 and as such, it has more mojo than most guitars could ever dream of having.

Wow, those are great comments! I'm starting to lean more towards the K7. Thanks! And btw, seller has the original knob, so all good!

No visible paint cracks on the neck joint after 20+ years is something to be proud of... be sure to see if there are no neck twists and if the truss rod works properly. 1/2 a turn in each direction will provide you more than enough info on that... that is if you can fetch it yourself...

Looks like you already know what you want, go for it before someone else does it for you...

Yeah, I think it looks great too considering its age. Definitely pulling the trigger

Okay, I’ve made the purchase. I also bought an excellent condition used prestige hard case and am sending it to the seller’s address. Next, he’ll send it to my guitar technician in another city for inspection and setup. After that, it’ll be on its way to me!

Thank you very much for your thoughts and suggestions, i know i can count on you guys. Will update and drop pictures as soon as it arrives!

Hope it all works out ok... Remember to post a NewGuitarDay thread when it arrives... we're some weird folks who collect guitars and instead of playing them we prefer to look at what other fellows bought on some other corner of this blue marble floating around a star we also like to call Sun...

Congrats, it’s a nice guitar.
And just a few days after I said the U Bar was a gimmick and was discontinued quickly (which it was), Ibanez have just announced its return on the new K7 at NAMM!
So that’s a nice bonus…
