Confirming you’re using different settings for the different guitars (if we dont ask, we dont know)
Yeah I bump up the resonance and bass a bit, but they just seem really "Plucky" with my 5150 no matter what I do.

Use those other 3 eq knobs too hehe.

Have you tried lowering the pickup or pole pieces a couple turns as well?

I’m looking for my next guitar and I just cannot decide. I wanted a USA select Jackson SL2H but they don’t seem to be in stock anywhere, particularly in UK and Europe. It’s making me think I may end up going the route of the new American Series SL2 DX, I liked the SL2MG I tried but don’t like matte finishes. The new DX comes in gloss white and has Duncans.

I’d love an ESP original series but struggling to justify the price compared to other high end superstrats.
Suhr modern and EBMM JP15 also on the list (but I’ve had a few JPs and always end up selling them as the necks are just so unstable and I have to frequently adjust the truss rod).

Value : Performance, it's hard to be used E-II these days, although I haven't yet tried the recent Jackson MJ and USA "value" series yet-----I have no doubt they're at least as good as the early '90s MIJ that are going for crazy prices. I wouldn't spend a dollar more for the old ones unless there was a certain look I had to have. Admittedly, I strongly prefer binding and truss rod covers on the headstock, so I'd lean new MJ series.

I've been playing my E-II Horizon III quite a bit lately, and it is amazing. I can't imagine how anyone would play it and think "eh...not good enough, I need to spend an extra $2000 to reach my potential".

Just sent a request to an SD dealer for a Floor Shop Custom situation......its just a non-stock cover to a stock pup. Interested to see what the upcharge is.

Yeah I've done quite a bit of futzing around with them, frankly I'm looking for a little more consistency in volume/tone between my two gigging guitars (a 6 and a 7) and would rather not have to run back to the amp to change settings.

I have a set of those Lithiums in a box somewhere. I never liked them either. They are very metallic and piercing, like a high powered single coil.
Lithiums are really only good in a dark sounding guitar ime. I think I had like one kiesel where the lithiums sounded great and like 11 others where they were too damn bright.

Heard, chef. Same pickup in everything and/or an eq with presets (boss eq200 etc).

I bought the Marshall JVM pedal as an experiment to see how it would work as a boost with the added benefit of the noise gate.

First tried it as main distortion and it works quite well with the Synergy IICP and Friedman DS module clean channels.
It sounds interesting and it has a fuller modern Marshall sound, but it's still brings the Marshall flavour.
The gate works quite well too.

I also tried it like a boost with low gain setting and it sounds interesting. Still experimenting here.., but I like how the noise gate works when I'm combining it with other boost pedals for a heavier sound.

I used it in my latest video which can be found in my latest standard guitar thread.

Don't really need anything guitar-related, but I keep thinking about bass. Either an old Ibanez Soundgear (the Reverse P/J variants or 5-string) and BTBnor Yamaha 5-string of sorts.

Definitely a cool guitar, but I have to ask, what's up with the Jim Kelley Amp? I thought maybe it was a Fender Champ/Tweed/etc single channel clone of some sort, but am reading about it, sounds like it's own thing with the concentric knobs and gain controls baxandall eq, 2 channels, 4 6v6s for 60w(!). Did someone famous use one? Or do you just own it because it's interesting/like it?

Made a mistake watching videos of the TRBX505/605, now the need is strong... Always wanted a TRB 5 string, and this seems to get really close to that sound.

EDIT: nvm, next purchase is the Rockman X100 plugin Nembreni just released lol

Asked my tech today what the damage is on the reverb board for the Revv and he said they sent it out for free and he'd install it at no extra cost over the other work he did! I'm really hoping that I love the amp, because Revv has been great to deal with so far and they definitely went above and beyond for me here. The amp was out of warranty range and I'm not the original owner either way. Very cool of them!

In other news, I submitted a case on PayPal for the refund for at least the $200 repair, since the guy seems to not be useful in refunding directly. I also mentioned that it didn't come with the footswitch that I used for my initial trade valuation on and included a quote from Revv for a new one ($149 + S&H). Rather than respond and just send me $200 back, he escalated it as a PayPal claim and there's no way they don't side with me on the full thing with the mountain of evidence I provided🤦‍♂️

Damn! Seems like, all considered, the trade worked out well once the dust settled.

There was a lot of TGP talk about them being up there with Dumbles, having a really legendary sound, so I was always curious about them. Any amp that has a cult following and a unique design is something I basically try to track down. And yea, it runs the 6v6s hard. There are famous people who like them, but there's basically one who stands out -- it's one of Joe Bonamassa's favorite amps. For an old amp, it's very versatile with all the knob push/pulls moving the EQ in specific Fender/Marshall/Vox directions. The gain is smooth and thick when it eventually comes on (which you pretty much need to attenuate for, and they often sold these with one). It's solidly vintage sounding, and at max gain gets something kind of like an EJ singing/straining violin type tone. It doesn't get heavy at all, but if you want to play some 70s stuff or want some pretty cleans, it's well suited to that.

But the answer to why I own something is almost always "I got a good deal on it".

This picture alone is probably worth a good 15 grand+.

:D If it's just the 3 main things it's probably half that. I posted elsewhere and I think the deal isn't quite as good now, but sequential dealers in the US are blowing out a lot of prophet gear atm / I think I got that one for 30% off what they used to be.
