What else were you looking at against the Ventris? Why did you choose it?
I have been looking at a Ventris or Collider or a UAFX Golden Reverb. I am having a hard time deciding. I like SA stuff, but the Golden sounds amazing in clips.... I did pick up a UAFX Heavenly, but still want something in stereo.
So I’ve been looking for a while at reverbs and delays in general. A couple of years, actually. I have purchased a couple of manual pedals that don’t require software, and love them. The appeal of tweaking knobs and just having fun is pretty gratifying. I still have a lot of these, and don’t intend to sell them, but I don’t want a board with like 6 of them on it just to have variety in a jam or band situation. I wanted something with presets. December suggested Sa’s nemesis delay to me and I got a killer deal on one.
So when it came time to look at verbs, I was interested in the Ventris, Meris mercury x, the golden reverb along with evermore from ua, rv500, and bigsky/bigsky mx. Recently I tried an ocean 12, was fine but lacked midi, and didn’t have the same sound quality. The golden sounded great, but the pedal format I didn’t like and I felt like the other big box verbs had more versatility overall. The boss was fine too, better sound quality than the Ehx,but I didn’t like the menu system that much on the unit. Meris is really cool, but price and possibly too much tweaking kinda left it out. Price with the bigsky Mx was a similar deal breaker, I just couldn’t justify 500-700$ for a pedal, even if it was so feature rich.
I am familiar with the SA software and app already. The sound quality is really good, I can do some tweaks without menu dives, if I need to deep dive but I’m not near a computer I can use the app on my phone, load patches from the app, midi, stereo. 8 presets without midi. Dual verb engines. The pitch shifts on the delay anre surprisingly good. It’s also not an entire board sized box. And then there was the price. Used it can get pretty close to used boss rv500 range. So when it came up at the used boss rv price I said why not?
