Has anyone mentioned stainless steel frets yet? Those things didn't even exist like 10 years ago or least no one cared until suddenly everyone absolutely refused to buy a guitar that didn't come with them.

Also, concerning SS.org lore; Rep bar. Never forget...

Pics or it didn't happen.:fawk::lol:
I know I've sent narad pics before, but I'm not at home for a while to take those pics. I've definitely previously posted about the Michael Wilton double neck I have in my possession as well. The other thing about the Lynch 7s is that they're missing the bridge for complicated reasons.

Kinda sad noone mentioned this as a pivotal point in SSO history:

Ah yes, that thread was some of my best work.

Trey from Morbid Angel was the first guy I ever saw live playing a 7-string during the covenant tour (1993-1994) shortly before Rutan joined. He had a PWH that later went to Rutan. It was in Boston with Machine Head and Crowbar. :yesway:

Pondman builds belong here too. And Herc Fede/OOTS/perle/etc swirl threads.
Hell yeah to Pondy builds, his necks are ridiculous! I haven't played one but would love to!

On a serious note, the EMG thread and @KnightBrolaire's and @Belensky's contributions to pickup testing are super valuable. There may be others like that but those two came to mind first!

On the off chance that I'm not falling for a troll (Poe's Law, and all that) and were potentially trying to actually put a timeline together...

Carvin and Kiesel did the opposite of merge. Carvin split into Carvin Pro Audio and Kiesel Guitars. That was in 2015.

One thread really sticks out to me in recent history ( as I haven't really been 'round here very long...I joined 15 years ago [almost to the day], but wasn't very active until more recently), was someone's suuuper ornate custom guitar with crazy inlays, but the craftsmanship was....er...lacking. Like...the fretboard edges look like they were carved with a hedge trimmer, but the owner defended it saying they really liked that aspect because it showed it was hand-made (or something like that).

I initially thought it was a "Lionheart" guitar, but with some digging and seeing some positive posts about their guitars, I don't think that was it...but the company name was something along those lines...

Then there was the thread from the person who claimed that removing the truss rod cover from their SG made some huge difference in tone. I don't know if that thread actually got very many replies, but the ridiculous concept was enough to stick out in my mind.

Say what you will. If I had to mention the feature I miss the most, then it would be...

The...

almighty...

BANHAMMER! 🔨

And it's associated thread of shame were mods posted who was banned and why, in a ss.org obituaries kinda way . Oh, and the banhammer swept ruthlessly like reaper through grass. Not like today, that's for sure.

Check out the "7th Heaven" promotional video by Ibanez made in the late 1990s. It has a good commentary about the history of the 7, and includes sections from Steve Vai, Wes Borland, Dino Cazares etc. who were all users at the time.

It's an interesting snapshot about the challenges of the time in convincing guitarists, who are generally traditionalists, to try something new and different.

This juxtaposition always breaks me. "I'm rock 'n' roll, a rulebreaker, you can't tell me what to do! There are no rules! Wait... uhh... is that... a ... another string? No... no, it's not right! Guitar can only be by the rules!"

Have there been any notable forum members that have passed away? Seems like most forums this old have a couple legends in Valhalla.
Only one I'm pretty sure passed was rob_l (dude with the enormous Carvin collection) but I'm pretty sure he is a bigger part of other forums than SSO.
Sometimes I do wonder about some of the members that flat out disappeared though... :(

The banned list thread unfortunately vanished from existence years ago. It was an amazing read, re-read, re-re-read, re-re-re-read, ad infinitum. There was one dude towards the end, I forget his username now (something with a Z or a V?), that kept getting banned like at least once a week and always for the dumbest reason. Sometimes a mod was just bored and though it was that guy's naptime for that week  it was almost an inside joke between the guy and the rest of the forum.

I have several photos downloaded from 2008/09/10
As I remember, this was one of the first 2228 on ss.org, I don't remember the user name.
I have some more but I don't know if it's okay to share them without permission.
