Goddamn it guys, this looks so awesome, I'm now considering getting a Switch just to play it...
I unlocked the fire temple so I have a good idea of what the ability is, just not sure if it's as overpowered once he's a sage. If the cooldown remains that fast I think it might be worth having him around just to never have to carry rock hammers! The lightning ability works for destroying boulders too, but you have to use an arrow.I've got two temples down - the air and fire. That air power IMO is incredibly handy to just have all the time.
I know at least one other person who bought a switch just for this game. If I didn't have a switch already, I would buy one for this game.
yesIt has a better display and more storage space, but is that it?
You can see play time on your profile after 10 days.Beat the fire temple, and damn, that one took AT LEAST 3 times as long as the water temple. It's this game's equivalent of Ocarina of Time's Water Temple when it comes to being confusing!I brute forced a few sections, I think, though I honestly couldn't tell what I was SUPPOSED to do (ex once i made a huge bridge out of hardened lava segments and once I climbed a floor up). As usual the boss fight was cool until it hit phase 2, then it became gibberish. I just shot him in the eye over and over in phase 2. Maybe that's what you're supposed to do? Just seemed like you were supposed to be shooting the goron guy up the sides of the walls to hit his legs again, but it's nearly impossible to do it fast enough to avoid the blockades he keeps throwing at you and you can't really aim that besides.
Anyway I'm now at 101 orbs, I dunno how many shrines discovered (it doesn't show you that total, but I probably have about 20 of them I discovered but haven't entered yet), 115 underground shrines discovered, 6 batteries, 90 korok seeds, the four sage powers, and have all but one of the geoglyph thingies so I'm probably able to beat the game at this point and feel I saw most of it.(I found another temple down there and intentionally avoided that whole area till the story sends me there)
I'll definitely try to clean up all the shrines first, though - this game is WAY, WAY easier to find all the shrines than BOTW due to the way the underground works. I'd also like to find a fourth one of those items that boosts your companions' damage, but those seem to be extremely rare. I've probably walked right past a few of them since I sorta rushed through some sky areas and didn't find one till really recently and then got three in pretty short order. I just looked it up and apparently there are TWENTY so clearly I haven't done much sky exploring. I also need to do the rebuild Lurelin quest. Etcetcetc. There's a hell of a lot of stuff in this game and if I beat it I would probably feel like I was "done" with it for a while.
I wish you could see time played. I am guessing I'm around 45 hours or so, as compared to BOTW where I think I was at ~100 hours before I found almost all the shrines (and there I was looking some of them up, I haven't had to do that here yet). That's not to say there's less content, just that it's a LOT easier to play it in a more targeted fashion if you explore the underground first, which I didn't even realize until I'd pathologically filled in most of that underground map and then saw how the shrines and underground shrine things were almost universally 1:1 match.
What profile? Stupid question i know. The user account on the Switch?? I was looking at the game info tabs and didn't see anything but I sure didn't look at profile. You can see play time on your profile after 10 days.
I'm at 35 and haven't done half as much as you 😅
Yeah, user profile up in the top left on the home page. Then the top option. It gives you play time in 5 hour increments, but in the first 10 days it says "First played X days ago".What profile? Stupid question i know. The user account on the Switch?? I was looking at the game info tabs and didn't see anything but I sure didn't look at profile.
I have 6 batteries at this point I think, didn't do any duping for that. If you explore the depths fully there are tons of chests and minibosses that drop them. Plus I think you get like 100 off all the boss fights that are part of that main quest chain down there. I have only fought a few minibosses down there (a couple of the low level frogs and constructs and taluses) and they all dropped 20 crystals each I think? Guessing the story bosses and lynels that are lurking down there drop considerably more.I made a bunch of progress yesterday and it feels like after certain quests, the game continues to open up more.
I haven't been duping anything though. I try not to do that kind of thing until/unless I get frustrated enough that I'd want to quit or something.I did some of the Yiga stuff - got the auto-building power. I had been running off of very little battery power up to this point - finished two of the temples even - but now I finally have the resources to get some batteries, which I imagine will make things a lot easier going forward. So much stuff feels like it's juuuuuust out of reach because the tiny battery power runs out so fast if you haven't upgraded much.
I've nearly filled my second battery, but I haven't done much down there.I have 6 batteries at this point I think, didn't do any duping for that. If you explore the depths fully there are tons of chests and minibosses that drop them. Plus I think you get like 100 off all the boss fights that are part of that main quest chain down there. Has anyone made this joke here yet?
*ahem*
Hey guys, I just found this great Tears of the Kingdom tutorial video:
How many hours have you put in?Well, I beat it accidentally. This game really did not do a good job of giving you ANY guidance with the quests. Based on a couple landmarks the quest hadn't taken me yet I was completely sure that the quest thats description was like "hey, I thought I saw Zelda, go check it out!" and I saw a node I'd missed underground very close to where the objective was, I was sure it wouldn't be the one that locks you into almost two hours of final boss fights. So, yeah, beat it accidentally. I had like 26 unspent orbs in my inventory cause I had no idea what I was getting into, and I had just farmed scads of armor upgrades but not spent them, but fortunately I HAD just cooked a bunch of food.
I'm very curious how the ending sequences play if you didn't get the absolutely insane final memory from checking out all those geoglyphs and doing the quest associated with them. Is theZelda dragon a surprise reveal??? Or does the game tell you that somehow earlier if you skip that quest? I guess it is pretty heavily hinted at throughout regardless.
Anyway, the last boss fights go on too long (especially thething) and there's a lot of frustrating parts but by and large it's fantastic and certainly a hell of a lot better than the last boss fights in BOTW.demon construct
Well, now I need to try and figure out what the heck those two locations are.One is in the depths and has the same teleport icon as the other temples and is called "temple of light," but it seemed to be locked when I went there. Future DLC placeholder? The other is that big stormcloud in the center of the sky, not sure if there's actually anything in there, I just figured the end of the game would be up there and apparently it was not. Well, unless that was the area for the final showdown.
So yeah, now that the game tricked me into beating it I dunno where I go from here. I had 130 shrines and all but like two of the underground points, and had maxed out most of the good defensive armors, and did a fair number of sidequests like the caves and stuff. Maybe I'm done!
The production values and story at the end are totally unlike anything seen before from Nintendo, it reminds me of a later Final Fantasy game or something, in a very good way. The music is awesome and gorgeous in equal measure for the whole climactic section and ending of the game. Definitely the best Zelda soundtrack by a mile (honorable mention goes to Windwaker just for the sailing theme).
I think it might be in people's best interests to at least look at what quests are tied to roughly what and which are "point of no return" cause the game does not give you a clue. I was kind of shocked at how short it seemed compared to BOTW considering the map is at least twice as big. Though I definitely would have messed around doing absolutely everything before beating it had I known!
