Now I'm sure some of you guys play metal and have the hard to read T-shirts to prove it, but I was wondering what people tend to assume when you tell them that you're a musician. I play a LOT of stuff: 1. Rock 2. Metal (melodic and sometimes nu-ish) 3. Hip Hop / R&B 4. My own experimental weirdness I play guitar, bass and saxophone most of the time. What I noticed, though, is that when I tell people that I'm a musician, they like to guess what I play and I've been noticing some patterns, so I was curious what other's experience is with that. This kind of reminds me of the reverse of a situation in college where we were walking around campus and the other dude in my band had his acoustic with him and he was plucking it as we walked along... This lady goes, "Oh a guitar! What do you play?" He politely said, "Guitar..." and walked away. The first thing every single person assumes when I say that I am a musician is that I'm a singer. Singing might be the part of music I like doing least next to playing drums. That said, I frequently get told that I "look like a singer". I tell them that I play saxophone to avoid singing. They keys are my autotune... What about you? Are people usually spot on or do you get some interesting guesses?
