I was over at someone's house, and they had the CMT music video block playing in the background, forcing me to listen to this awful Brad Paisley song, only to be shocked that this guy can fucking rip a solo.

It happened many years ago, not recently: I witnessed him playing flamenco, accompanied by a "cajon flamenco" — turns out that Sanz is a monster playing guitar.
Sadly, I still have not been able to find a good youtube video with Sanz shredding on a flamenco guitar. I'll keep trying, though.
A similar example was watching John Mayer playing with B.B. King, at a time I only knew Mayer as a teenage pop-star.

While not necessarily a player from the old shred school of players that I normally would attribute this affirmation, I have to say that I've come to in the last year, really esteem Pete Loeffler from Chevelle. He's not technically a solo type of player, but as a writer, this kid is a riff factory and a strong melody writer from a vocal perspective. I have a custom play list of the last three Tool, Alice in Chains, and Chevelle records and it gets heavy rotation for me.

Miles Dmitri Baker, hope I spelled his name right. I hated rings of Saturn so never heard him there, but by chance caught some riffhard videos of him. He's not that fastest shredder but the man is a really solid and great guitarist. Also I'm in love with his sig guitar.

I didn’t know Broderick was in In Flames now. Must be why the new singles are the first to grab my attention since come clarity.
But… getting Broderick as a rhythm guitarist? That’s like getting a Ferrari as a winter commuter.

Chris only officially joined super recently. He was a touring member while their actual 2nd guitarist was on "hiatus" (IE: quietly left the band to form The Halo Effect lol).
Hard to say if Chris actually had any hand in songwriting, since Bjorn and Anders have been the songwriters since Jesper left.

I’ve never been a country or bluegrass fan, but those folks can really play. I read an article last week all about chicken pickin’, with videos, and Brad Paisley was one of the badasses highlighted.

Lenny Breau - relatively unknown beast of the past that died way too young. His originals are amazing as well. He's got an incredible technique for arpeggiating chords with harmonics which can be seen at 1:54.
