Seriously, I thought about this once. All those years of disciplined practice down the drain because of some freak accident or assault from some deranged person. Off goes your hand and everything you have worked so hard for is gone in a few seconds.

    This world scares me

Why would you say this to me?

Now I can't go outside anymore.

But seriously, don't be afraid of the world, and don't try to eliminate all risk from your life. That is a losing battle. Just learn to mitigate your risks, when you can, by being aware of your surroundings at all times and by putting yourself into situations in which you feel confident and in-control. Accidents are bound to happen, but if you try to take yourself out of any conceivable danger you are going to miss out on an awful lot of great stuff.

    TL;DR Just don't lose a hand, silly!

Haha I know it is pretty morbid, just a random scary thought that popped into my head.

I'd be devastated. The only thing that could fill that void would be cars. Preferably muscle cars.

I lost the use of my right hand for about two months following a blood clot and resulting hemorrhage in my brain, and it was literally the most terrifying thing that ever happened to me, thankfully through extensive therapy and rehabilitation I've regained most of the function now, but it's an experience I will never forget. you don't realize how much you take those little things for granted until you lose them.

Either suicide or getting *really* good at tapping and inventing some kind of easily movable capo type thingy that can be quickly adjusting to different frets on each string by a stump.

I contemplated it just after my event, but didn't because 1) the really effective methods require 2 hands and 2) music is full of people who were told they would never play again (Def Lep's drummer, Tony Iommi, Dave Mustaine, and so on) who overcame their disability to be great again. I may never be as good as I was before that incident, my alternate picking isn't as tight as it was and my sweeps are still sloppy, but I beat the odds and I am able to play again, even though my doctors said it would probably never happen. Suicide may be the easy way out, but if you go that route you'll never know what could have come to be. I chose the hard road, and I'm damn proud of what I have accomplished.

    [EDIT]

If it were the other hand I'd swap to lefty guitars and do the same thing happening here.

I would shit myself consistently. Nothing could be worse to me, besides the obvious like death, more devastating dismemberment, or paralysis. I try not to think about things like that because it freaks me the .... out.

No point being scared of the world and worrying about these sorts of things.

BUT, if I did lose a hand, I hope it'd be in some kind of work related or industrial accident so I can claim worker's compo for the rest of my life, and by the time I'm 40 they will have invented robotic hands that can link up to the nerves in your arm, so I'd be set.

yes it is fun living in a dream world

Hey man, you may laugh, but that's something I've legitimately thought about and received comfort from!
