Unfortunately I don’t think it’ll be possible for me to get in on it, disappointing but nothing I can do about current circumstances. Thought I’d share in case anyone else was waiting for another run.

It really isn’t, I hope he does another run after this when I’m in a position to buy toys again. I’m sure shipping charges are going to be crazy right now. Wood prices seem to be falling in my area but the cost of living is just absurd still.

I thought Vader cabs were pretty budget options?

They were never as expensive as some of the more popular independent builders like Mills or Port, but I don't think they were ever really "cheap" in any particular way.

Maybe you're thinking Avatar?

Not confusing them, but basically thought they were comparable. Maybe something about the branding being kind of cheapish.

You used to be able to grab Vaders pretty cheap when they were HUGE in the late 00's. They were everywhere.

But the cabs themselves were never marketed as being a cheaper alternative to anything.

They were cheaper than some of the boutiques, especially when brands started doing that stained wood look, like Emperor.

They were definitely going for a stripped down, no nonsense vibe, which I can see being read as cheap if you're into fancy stuff.

my experience with vader was playing shows with some guys that owned the rhinoliner-coated ones

pretty cool, sounded great from what i remember, but i recall them saying they cared more about them being really resilient and durable than how they sounded

Yeah I bought one back when the hype was huge. They were alright but sounded very cold and percussive. I love the look and the Rhino lining coat but the speakers were meh. They were marketed towards the "bree bree" grindcore types and for that they worked. I brought mine to a studio one time and the Mesa Recto cab the studio had ate it alive. I bought a Marshall MF280 cab and there was absolutely no comparison. I ended up selling my Vader to a SS.org forumite. I can't remember who, though.

+1 to this. I bought a Vader years ago when they were all the rage and just didn't get the hype. In addition to what you explained, I also found my 4x12 extremely directional. It didn't really fill the room like others I've used and if you weren't in its sweet spot, it sounded really bad.

Very well built cab, though, but definitely didn't live up to the hype of the others of its time, like Mills or the Emperor I currently have IMO. There's a lot of gear from back then that was just okay that people now seem to salivate over though. I don't really get it.

I liked the Vader cab that I had. Roadworthy with that truck bed lining paint! But it just sounded muffled compared to a Mesa OS. Mine had the early Legends that sounded flatter than the newer V12 he uses now.

By the time I was ready to put different speakers in it, I gave up halfway through the job. It was a PITA to take off all the sealant he uses to secure the speakers. Just ended up selling it.

Now that V30 and K100 Vader cab Im seriously considering. That’s a good pair!

Do you think the Rhino paint dampens the cab and prevents it from projecting better? Rhino liner is a dense paint material and it’s not as light and made for speaker enclosures as Duratex Speaker paint that people like Arachnid cab uses.

Very cool. I had a Vader 2x12 back in the day. I remember talking to the builder through the process and he was incredibly nice and honest with me
