There is no mojo with Gibson guitars..it's a lifestyle brand that sells inferior products at EXTREMELY high markup to gullible idiots who get them as a status symbol, nostalgia piece, etc.
The headstocks break, they leave the factory with shit loads of problems, certain eras in the company are notorious for terrible QC, they crack and fall apart and discolor and look like shit after a few years, and the company knows this. They tout lots of their flaws as "features" and have convinced idiots that these are benefits for an extremely expensive guitar.
Several companies are absolutely killing it in terms of features, quality, durability, and value..there's honestly NO reason to buy a Gibson unless you want to buy into their self manufactured "magic".

Gibson is the Apple Products of music.

The only Gibsons worth buying are used SGs if you get them for a good price and they happen to be a good one because they're really hit or miss. I played a SG for like 6 years and it was a wonderful guitar that was super resonant and light and easy to play. Everything other Gibson is way too expensive and their quality control is ass. Garbage company.

I mean, guitars just kinda sound gross by themselves anyways - bass guitars, in comparison, can sound fantastic with almost no processing or very moderate EQing. A guitar is just all gross jangly bullshit without major treatment, regardless of what that treatment is.
Needs some soy lecithin and high fructose corn syrup.

It is like Gibson, in the sense that there's always some group of people who have to hate things they perceived as overprice because their use case is totally different :D ~"A macbook pro for $1500? You could put together a killer gaming desktop with linux and full RGB for less than that! Suckers!"

Gibson is kinda like Starbucks.
Some people REALLY need you to see the logo on the cup and will pay for just that..even if cheaper coffee elsewhere would be even better

That J-200 shirt and Hummingbird blanket look dope.

I ran into Mark Agnesi at Carter Vintage Guitars last week and dude's attire hasn't changed one bit.

Sir, if you like those you should check out vintage Wrangler shirts, those things look so wild they could give sight to the blind.

On topic.

Alnico magnets sound better than ceramic magnets

Might actually get banned for this opinion so here goes:

Ibanez guitars, particularly RGs, are at best boring and uninspired. They look neither classic nor modern and all of them look the same, regardless of 6 or 7 string. The headstock is barely passable when reversed and offensively plain when it's not.

"Oh hey this is my Ibanez RG589YSIUOHNFSDF78 it has a super thin neck and... no other defining features" - Comments of the completely deranged.

Also the notion of systematically causing permanent wrist damage just to harp on about flat and thin necks in some cult-like circle jerk shows you have about as much personality as your boring guitar.

Sure, tell me about the value of your Prestige RG234872Y3RN9EGIE because aside from the thin neck that is all there is to say. I bet it's as interesting as your equally boring and 'great value' Android phone that you definitely have.

While we're predictably hating on legacy brands, why does Fender get let off the hook so much vs. Gibson?

There's not a single crime Gibson gets motherfucked for that Fender hasn't done.

From tons of lawsuits, to price hikes, to years of shoddy quality, to buying up smaller brands just to run them into the ground or dissolve them, poor worker practices, near insolvency, etc.

The (IMO) coolest Superstrats that Ibanez had are either long discontinued (The original Power shape... No, not the Skolnick one with the huge erection) or they don't do shit with it except budget guitars (The SA). And with the SA they didn't use an ungodly thin neck profile.

@MaxOfMetal It's true about any guitar brand but I think Fender was the impetus for internet forums saying "you have to try a lot of them out to find one you like"

I actually want a LP Supreme and always have. I don't think I will ever be at a point where I can just drop that kind of money on a wall hanger, as I don't play six strings at all.

Would still be nice to be that stupid with my money, though.

Then fuck Fender too..they don't get a free pass.

But we're talking about Gibson now.
