Cheers!

I plan to find a therapist that could help me in a few issues.

I started writing music a few years ago, but I's quit stressful for me, I don't get any joy from it and I constantly procrastinating.

Also I'm not in my happiest place for a long time (divoced dad, single for 7 years, not the best family relations), that probably don't help either...

Just wanted to ask if someone else asked for help for similar reasons, or what are your thougths about this?

No first hand experience, but I’ve known people who benefited quite a bit from therapy, so it can work well as long as you don’t expect them to be a miracle fix; they’ll give you the tools, but you have to put in the work.

I would put worrying about therapy affecting creative output a bit below getting the proper tools to handle how life is currently going.

Your first or fifth therapist may not be the right fit. Just like learning an instrument, you need to put in the work.

Sort out the big stuff and the little stuff will come together. Good on you for seeking professional help!

Thanks everyone!

Yes, I don't expect miracles, I read many horror stories from bad therapists.

One thing is for sure, as David Lynch said, depression and suffering doesn't help creativity...

Never heard of anyone going to therapy to facilitate the creative process, but I guess I don't know anyone who's gone to therapy and regretted it, so sure, give it a shot and report back!

Yes.

I've brought up my writers block and noncommittal attitude to following through with creative processes and my therapist has suggested that I have guitars with me during sessions so we can kinda talk about it and glean some things. I've just been chickening out because I don't think he's ready for LIGHTNING FAST SWEEP ARPEGGIOS. (nah I just haven't felt comfortable doing so yet). Maybe in a couple weeks I'll get the gumption to join the zoom call with an acoustic parlor guitar or something. It's been decades of playing guitar and I somehow have never written a full song I am satisfied with. Got plenty of riffs and ideas, just can't seem to bring them together. Hopefully this experiment can help.
