Growing up in FL in the 80s and 90s, Thoroughbred music was the best place for getting deals. Around '99, they were acquired by Sam Ash and a year or so later some of the super stores were shutting down. My roommate wanted to upgrade his guitar so we went to the Orlando location during the last days of business to see what we could snag. When we got there, I believe he settled on an ibanez JS100 for about $400, but on the wall were a few USA jacksons, a DK1 and a couple of SL1's...brand new, for $800-1,000. I already had an SL1 and a KE3 at the time, so I told him I'd front him the rest of the money over his budget if he wanted to grab a Jackson because he wasn't ever going to find that deal again. He declined and we left. After thinking about it for a day or so, I figured it was too good of a deal to pass up and returned to the shop to see all their Jackson inventory was long gone.

Another one – non instrument, but "amp" – happened today. Had long pondered getting a modeler. Even made a thread about it on here – and received lots of help. Decided to go with a used Axe-FX3 MKII I got offered, made the deal with the seller, everything agreed, was to pick it up next week. Received word today that he had gotten a better offer and took it, even though we had an agreement. Well.

This Ibanez Musician 1981 MC350FR

Quite a rare beast, it was basically mint condition with a Hiscox case. I had already spent over £1000 on some guitar bits so i wasn't quite ready to spend another £1200. The guitar had been on Reverb for more than a year so i thought i could maybe pick it up in a couple months time.

When i decided i could do it the guitar was gone. Probably never see one again.
Oh I had one of those some time ago! Came with the original case and all that, just rusted strings and some grime. I cleaned it up and it was genuinely good as new. The best part is i paid 600 bucks on Offerup for it. I traded that for a G&L Custom Shop fallout with a Parallel Axis in the bridge - a lot better suited for me and what I play than that heavy tone beast. That was mint condition as well so I see it as a good trade
Recently this guy came into GC with a Jackson Professional in OK condition and they offered him 300, i pulled him to the side and slid him 350 for it. Took it home and cleaned it fully up, there wasn't a ding on that bad boy. Frets were 99% there, floyd was a schaller branded, everything was fine with it. No case but I had a spare, the only one I see like it for sale is 900 bucks and it's in players condition. Good deal for me!

The one that REALLY got away from me..... the first guitar Bernie Rico Jr. ever built from his own lineup - at least according to the serial number. 00001. Guy here in San Antonio had it listed for 500 bucks! I didnt have the cash at the time, but i feel like a fool for not waiting cause i only just saw people pondering about it on the facebook groups. I knew what it was, I saw the logo before and the parts and wood build with stingers and this n that just made me certain I knew what I was looking at/ Im sure if someone snapped it up it wouldve been relisted for a few figures, and someone might have even snapped it up at that, but in the end it seemed like an older gentleman, he told me he got it in a pawn shop in Cali many decades ago... I told him what he had. Sure, I missed out on a wonderful guitar and a piece of B.C. Rich history, but I saved him the heartbreak of realizing what he would have been practically giving away.

Well...just lost out on another one. Special ESP collaboration model with a visual novel game dev from back in 2011. Character's guitar. Insanely rare. I meant to put in an order with my proxy buyer in Japan to purchase, fell asleep (because it was late at night), woke up a few hours later, and it was marked as "SOLD". 😭

Probably this thing. The nicest Jackson USA Custom Shop SLS I've ever seen by a huge margin

I posted my Suhr for trade offers and a guy sent me a couple I wasn't crazy about. Asked what he had with a fixed bridge... sent me this pic. I went crazy for it but he was only showing it to me, it wasn't actually a trade offer. Suffice to say, my ass was maximally chapped

An ESP DV8 for $700 bucks at GC. Played it, went home to grab the credit card, some guy swooped in and got it. So bummed about that.

A little over a year ago, S7420FMTT with DiMarzio Titans and a LoPro7 in place of the LoTRS. Under a grand CAD.
The seller was only about a 3hr drive from me, but we weren’t able to make our schedules work for a meeting. We took too long arranging shipping, and he ended up selling it locally. Kicking myself for that for a while yet, I imagine.

I remember seeing this and also really considering purchasing. I think he was asking 800 or 850 CAD for it. I feel dumb for not jumping on it.
