What model did you get?

For the record, binding bleed happened on 50s les pauls and the people wanted to spec - this includes the bleed. None on my LPC, a bit on my R9. I think my G0 had some too iirc.

Not much help about tool marks on binding though..

It’s a les Paul custom. The black one.

I'm not worried about the tool marks, that’s me being really critical and a pedant expecting perfection.

It’s a Gibson so need to be realistic :D

now it’s warmed up the smell is starting to kick in :)

Yamano Les Pauls?

Someone locally just posted a yamano that seems to be heavily toured. Nice aging on it. Has a 60s neck, which I'm indifferent towards (partial to 50s). Priced decently, when compared to eBay and reverb prices for Yamano.

Beyond them being for the Japanese markets, I know very little about them. Anyone shed light on this?

Sure, if I don't like it, I'm sure I can sell it for more...

Debating.

59 and 60s necks are two different things. Not saying who did the aging means it wasnt anyone noteable - which means its worth less not more.

Would need a lot more info but thats a 2k guitar to me.

Yeah, he talked himself down to $2,200. Maybe I can push him further to 2k.

Though I wonder if it's even worth it. Not really a fan of figured top guitars anymore. Don't care much for 60s neck (he confirmed in pm that it is 60s neck).

I mean, I like all things related to Japan; supposedly Yamano is very strict with their own QC so the guitar must be good...

But....basically I'm asking if someone can talk me out of it

Dont buy something you mind being stuck with for a bit.

Yamano was a dealer and iirc that stopped in 2006. Check MLP for how to verify basically .

Can you try it first?

What's the general consensus with the new Gibson LPs?

I last owned a 2012 Traditional that was decent but far from blemish free. It played very well but the next was a little thick for my tastes. After selling it a few years ago, and recently getting back in to playing my Eclipse, I've decided to scratch the LP itch and buy another.

I'm hoping in the next day or two to have a LP Custom turn up.
Tried a ton of SGs and Les Pauls in 2021 – mostly all non custom shop ones from 2019, 2020, 2021. They were mostly all in really good condition when it comes to QC. The late 2020 SG Special I left the shop with was a prime example of good guitar making and felt like an instrument worth two times what I paid (1300 € incl. case).

Yeah I would have to confirm the build years but I've got a 21/22 LPC and Standard and they are both excellent guitars.

Also guess I need to post this here too... another Edwards E-LP-130 is in the way. The wide one was good enough to make me want to grab a black one before you can't find them new anymore.

l’ve gone ahead and bought a LP Custom. Comparing it to my JP and Suhr guitars, I’d say it’s a little behind. Being really picky in the right light you can see it’s hand made.

does it bother me?

No!

This thing rips. It is gorgeous, it sounds and feels insane. I’m very, very happy with it.

I have 12-54 in B on my standard. Try it, it's a good time.

No idea how you do that, if I drop the low D on my Eclipse down to a B it feels like flub city and that's with a 52, you got the Billy Gibbons touch or something going on

I used to run 10-52 in standard too haha.

I think leaving 10-46 on new guitars since 2020 helped.

I’m in the 10-46 boat right now too after using 9’s practically my entire life for my 6-stringers.

9’s in B is fun if you’re into noodles

I play in drop C mostly. Used 10-52 forever but recently bumped the 6th string to a 56 and it's a lot better. String tension is more to my preference and it doesn't go as sharp before settling to pitch.

I have one of my LPs tuned to GGCFAD and I use a 68 on the low G.

I've always preferred slinkier string tension, but the heavier gauges on the low string has been a nice change.

Also, LPs and chugs are like ham and tuna fish. Go together beautifully and the extra girth adds beef to the toan.

Ya know what's funny, last time I was in GC I tried a LP because I'd never played one before. Tried the Epiphone and the neck was way too small. The whole guitar felt weird. Tried a Gibson and it was better but for the price there was NO sense in it.

Picked up an ESP eclipse, the black and gold low end version and it felt great. Played great, the neck was great..everything was surprisingly good. I've never played a higher end ESP Eclipse but if they're anything like that one, I'd love to check it out

I'd love a nice Eclipse one day. I've got plenty of time to decide but I'm going back and fourth between that or an Axcess Custom

I tried a friend's 2000's MIJ standard Eclipse and it was a nice guitar, but I knew 30 seconds in I shouldn't buy one because the neck will bug me just enough. If you like 'em, get 3.

I plan on getting a Dean Cadillac. That's LP-like, right? 😅
