As far as I understand it all Synergy stuff is compatible with the old one channel Randall and Egnater style modules. Not 100% sure on that though.
Yeah I assumed it was, but hadn't seen any confirmation on the 20 yet. Which got me curious.

Has anyone confirmed that the 20IR is backwards compatible?

I haven't seen anyone mention it yet.
Someone in the Synergy group on FB said he tried his Jaded Faith and Randall modules in it and it worked fine. Another guy said his Jaded Faith ones didn't. Not sure what's going on there but presumably they SHOULD work.

I wonder if that has anything to do with the length of the module, all my original Randall modules bar the XTC work with my Syn 1, but due to the length of the module the contacts don't reach the connector inside the dock, I wonder if that's the case here.

It's completely fine in my Mod 50 though

Can't seem to edit, but just wanted to add I read on another forum that someone fried their Synergy hardware by trying to force it in when it didn't fit.

Personally, I have never had the desire to use older, non-Synergy modules.
Some of them are pretty good, however a bunch of them are probably bettered by the Synergy branded stuff, I did prefer the SL+ to the 800, but I had felt with the XTC vs the Bogner one, they could do the same thing with the bias switch in the first position.

I have a few of the Egnater branded ones, a couple of modded ones, but I'm a fiend for all of this stuff. The VX will never leave my possession, according to TGP the VX/Morgan AC are incredibly similar.

Probably not worth picking up unless they're really cheap (or modded) these days though.

Actually no. I've seen 2 people in the FB group who's MTS modules don't work in the new head. Every other Synergy head like the 30 and 50, but no go with the 20IR.

If Marshall makes a 8100 synergy module my finger will smash the order button so fast my phone will explode.

Instead they will probably make something lame like a DSL module.

I'm still betting it'll be the previous two Marshall like modules, but rebranded.

Heard rumors it's a silver jubilee though.

My 8100 was like half the price of a good synergy module

I wish they were still like that, I've seen one an hour away from me for like 280.

A synergy module used is anywhere from 150 and up (I got my BE for 130)

8100 is a completely different topology than Synergy. I don't see that ever happening. Having it as part of thier recent pedal line would have made more sense.

I don't know about the synergy base hardware (ie the amps, syn1/syn2 etc) but the modules are really good, better than the randall ones (which i think was one of the things that tanked the randall paltform a bit, as they were always ok, but not amazing).

Anyway, I've got a randall rm100 (modded to synergy spec + MDA presence/depth board and soon cathode bypass selector switch when i can be bothererd) and a RM4 4 slot preamp with the cathode bias switch and the dual chanel upgrade.

Now, the synergy modules are great, although with everything some are going to be hit and miss for you. I'm lucky to have been able to compare some of the modules to actual amps, and in my experience the modules are 99% dead one the same as the amps, with that 1% I atribute to differences in power amps (as my randall is el34). One module, the bogner uber, sounds better than the bogner ubver rev blue i have. So far I've tried the friendman be (nice, but undergained for me), tldx (great for cleans and pushed stuff), OS(also really nice for the cleaner/pushed end of the spectrum), savage(not an engl fan, but it sounds like an engl, so it is good, if you like engl), bogner uber (probabl my favourite), slo (still a favourite), bogner ecstacy (also nice) and the fryette pitbull (what would you know, sounds like my ultralead, although a tad brighter)

So yeah, the synergy stuff is great, it really is, just that I think they're making the same mistake with overcharging for the hardware (the syn-1/2 should be at least 1/3rd cheaper) so that puts people off I think.

Gonna send a few modules off to a modder I think, I've just tried the Randall Plexi and I'm shocked at how close it is to my Jplex. Like, if you recorded both of them together, you could make the stock one identical with a bit of an EQ shelve,

I agree on the Synergy hardware, that's the thing that puts people off. I got my Syn 1 when it was around 450, but they want 550 for one of those in the UK. Hard sell with no modules.

Talking of which, I should get the RM4 mod. Would give me more channel options than the Syn 2.

Can you share some details about the RM100 modding?
Who did it? I also thought they have both El34, and 6L6 tubes in the power amp? And I also thought they already had depth, and presence?
My local boutique guitar shop has one 4/S right now, but seems a bit pricey.

I always look into buying one of these, as a friend of mine has one, and its a bit more my style than the Synergy platforms.

He has a few moduales, and the IICP+ module sounds amazing, even when compared back to back with the real thing.
