Not seeing a lot of buzz here surrounding this so I thought I'd start a thread for it.

Suffocation has been showing off a few songs from the upcoming album. This album will be the first featuring Ricky Myers (Drums in Disgorge/Live vocalist last few years in Suffo) on vocals following the departure of the legendary Frank Mullen. The 2 tracks already shown already prove that he's going to do great. Hell, he has been live for several years now. I still want that new Disgorge album though lol.

Anyways, here's the 2 tracks released so far. I liked Seraphim Enslavement initially but Perpetual Deception absolutely rips.

They also have a co-headlining tour coming up with Incantation with Skeletal Remains and Stabbing supporting. I've seen both Skeletal Remains and Stabbing opening for Defeated Sanity over the last few years and both brands were super impressive. Stabbing had some of the best stage presence I've ever seen. I'm not familiar with Incantation's music but I'm aware of the following they have so I'm curious to hear them live and experience their music that way for the first time.

Here's the tour poster for those interested. This is probably the most exciting tour for the rest of the year for me alongside Ne Obliviscaris. I was really excited to see Cannibal Corpse, Blood Incantation, and Gorguts but those ticket prices are a little insane, at least where I am.

Tangent but I see Skeletal Remains as one of the only few newer DM bands trying to pay homage the sound of Erosion of Sanity and Pierced From Within

I'll give it a spin when it comes out but I'm not super stoked about it; they've released so much material with so little change in the style. The production has gotten more and more crisp and they changed singers but every single album has been more or less what I've expected.

That's true, but I think that's point with bands like them and Dying Fetus. People know what to expect from them and if they start changing course now after all these years it wouldn't make sense.

These first two tracks sound more inspired than anything they’ve put out since probably their self titled record IMO.

Ricky sounds immense too. I’m pumped.

It's funny because it cuts all different ways. When Origin released Chaosmos I rolled my eyes when I heard the "fast sweep picking over blast beat" on the opening track because I've been hearing since Echoes of Decimation (I actually owned that album in 2005) but the album actually grew on me just by having something to go to when I wanted to listen to something really specific.

So maybe sometime I'll be like "damn, can't listen to enough Suffocation" and I'll be happy that they have this new album.

On the other hand, there are a number of bands who I've totally lost touch with because I have no idea what their doing album to album (Opeth, BTBAM, Thrice).

Warmth in the Dark kind of rips, especially the down picked riff. Not the best Frank has ever sounded though (Breeding the Spawn he sounds fucking brutal, ironically enough)
