I have a feeling this is gonna go left pretty quick as everyone has their personal opinions about gear youtubers, BUT, today I was randomly looking up Line 6 Helix reviews for a good metal tone and assuming I would mostly find a bunch of several year old videos as the Helix isn't the flavor of the week anymore I was surprised to find this
So not only was it posted just 3 weeks ago (somehow even though I'm subscribed to the channel I missed this video), BUT it's not a super moderny metal tone AND he shows it in the context of a mix. It covers exactly what I was looking for.
To be honest I really appreciate this channel as Jon isn't annoying, he's actually a likeable person, his reviews actually sound good (which is sometimes really hard to come by with gear youtubers for some reason), he plays well, AND he edits the videos in a way that gets to the good stuff without a bunch of bullshit. He doesn't devote videos to the latest idiotic gear gossip, he doesn't waste time making ragebait videos (*Insert popular gear here* SUCKS! CLICK FOR MORE!), his stuff is upbeat, positive, and he seems to enjoy doing it.
Personal note, he also has one or two guitars with a Seymour Duncan Custom in it which is great for me as it's my favorite pickup. You know how rare it is to see anyone doing heavy music demos with that pickup?
He also doesn't seem to be in that gear youtuber circle that all reviews the same shit at the same time. You can tell when a company is hitting the press circuit because the same handful of youtubers all review the exact same thing at the exact same time. He seems to be out of that loop which is nice as he covers a wide range of gear and his reviews are actually useful.
He also posted this video and now there are a couple of speakers I really want to try. Honestly I rarely watch gear reviews that make me actually want to buy the shit they're reviewing so kudos to him on that.
Listen, most gear reviewers are kind of annoying and have to be taken with a grain of salt to enjoy them, but this channel is definitely the best of the bunch for me. I know he's a member of this forum, and I can't remember his name, but should you read this, just know I appreciate your channel and felt it needed to be praised. Please keep doing what you do, as the gear youtube world needs more people who are actually likeable and can review gear well.
