Y'all realize digital stuff is played through a solid state amp most of the time right? Either a class-D amp, or the solid state amp in your monitors or what-have-you. Digital has more in common with solid state than tube amps IMO. So with that in mind, if digital is a Tesla, then solid state without the bells and whistles of digital would have to be a Smart car.

More gas cars have caught fire and killed people than Teslas, so that still probably tracks with tube amps.
That's like saying way more Chinese people have died in China than any other ethnicity.

There's a whole thread about EVs already if you really want to go down that path. But just for fun, here's the first google result: https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/are-electric-vehicles-more-likely-to-catch-on-fire/

Using data from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) and government recall information, AutoinsuranceEZ indicated fires by vehicle type:

  • Hybrids reflected the most at 3,475 fires per 100,000 vehicles. This is most likely because hybrids utilize two powertrains.
  • ICE vehicles caught fire substantially less often, at 1,530 incidents per 100,000 vehicles.
  • EV fires were significantly lower than the others, with 25 fires per 100,000 vehicles. So of the approximately two million EVs on U.S. roads, less than two out of a 1,000 will catch fire.

The joke has gone way into a place it doesn't need to go.... I had assumed since I was riffing off of @LiveOVErdrive it was inferred the joke was about "solid state people" driving a certain kind of vehicle. Not equating an amp to a car.

From what I can find, tesla fires, while less frequent, are a lot more fatal than most fires. The common comparison is 27 died in Ford pinto fires out of 3M vehicles manufactured, while 41 died in Tesla fires for roughly the same number of vehicles.

BUT the data is hard to find, and there are a lot of bad actors out there with a vendetta against EVs for political reasons so take all that with a grain of salt.

Tldr: fires are scary. Misinformation is bad. Solid state reigns supreme.

Yes you're right, and I've derailed the funny. I'm sorry yall. Let's just move on.

Onto the important question:
What do people who only play electric guitar unplugged (me) drive?

Just be happy that most fire is in the visible light spectrum. F1 crews had some crazy invisible fires from methanol. Imagine feeling like you're burning but don't know why or which way to go to escape.
