I wanted to make this thread because I recently saw a raptor 7 on reverb that looks very nice

I can't afford it now but maybe in the future I might consider getting it if I ever want to commit financial suicide

In general I was wondering what people's experiences with the brand are like and if they recommend them at all. Any thoughts?

I've had a few older Skervesens. The quality was a little worse than the Mayoneses I've tried but still very nice guitars. I assume the newer ones are better since they've had more time to develop their production methods. I love their super thin raptor bodies and they sound great.

I had couple. Great guitars, but you don't wanna get one with a Zero fret. It starts to ping after 1 year. They stopped doing them as standard around 2018.

The reason I moved away from them was basically just wanting to try other things. They have a very specific tight / sterile sound, which you either like or don't.

I think I would really love a well specced 4AP, Kallisti or something these days. But yeah, a lot of time will have to pass until I get bored with my current collection, lol.

What are the zero frets supposed to do? I cant even see it on their custom builder but maybe I just missed it

Mayones were the first sort of fancy guitars I discovered because of Sithu Aye but those I think will forever be out of my price range (i guess the Skervesen guitars are too for now)...but who knows...for now I'll keep enjoying my two RGs, I just finished putting all the pickups I wanted on them so now I can play all the stuff I like on them :)

I grabbed one a few weeks back. Very impressed with it. Great player. Has Fishman Tosin's in it. My major gripe is the fretwork. Now either this thing suffered from a bit of fretboard shrinkage causing very uniform fret sprout on both treble and bass sides or the attention to detail on the frets was sadly lacking. As the rest of the guitar is damn good I'm thinking a tiny bit of shrinkage.

Had a neck thru 4AP in 2012. Was decent, but lacks the playability of my Caparison / Jacksons, and the built quality below Mayones.

Have you considered Vandermeij Guitars for that price range?

I have a skervesen raptor 7. The build was started in 2019, and completed a year and 1/2 later. Delays thanks to covid.

It's still hands down the most awesomest guitar I've personally ever played. For me personally, it checked all the boxes.

I haven't played a mayones so I can't compare to them. But those are on my list to one day try out.

But the neck on my raptor 7 is the comfiest neck I've ever played on. It sounds great too.

The only thing I wish I would have done different are the strap locks. They're those dunlop ones that slide into the hole, and they just make me nervous. I've never had one pop off, but they don't feel sturdy. At the time, the dunlop ones were the only one they offered without a special order, but I think they maaay have other options by default now. I was mocking up a swan build last year and I vaguely remember seeing another option at the time. Can't really remember though.

anywho....I'll do another skervesen at some point. I just need to get resettled somewhere longer term, and get work sorted before pulling the trigger. I have a swan build pretty much mocked up and ready to go though.

I think they might have schaller straplocks now, like the ones that have the safety pin that clicks (ive never used them personally but I have a friend in music school who has a charvel with those and says he'll never go back)

Ps that is an awesome looking guitar......i guess you could say it's............the bee's knees.........

A shop near me has a few online and they look incredible . Some beautiful 7 strings with Guitarmory Atlas pickups and swamp ash body . They also have that WOD mod where a flip of a toggle switch can resemble an acoustic guitar , a plugged in one mind you , but still super cool and convenient . I'd love to own one eventually . They have the Velociraptor versions of the Raptor where some options are limited , leading to a really nice streamline build . Only gripe is all the 7's ordered are 25.5" . I think a 26.5" would have been perfect but not a deal breaker by any stretch . I imagine it would be a very versatile guitar .

Edit ; now I believe I might be getting this information confused with Charbonneau Guitars , but I want to say Skervesen had a pin on the rear of the body originally , but the wing got beefed up to be able to have the pin moved to the edge .

I have no idea I'm afraid. I bought it from an online acquaintance. Let me do a bit of digging.....I'm sure I saw an ad or two up for it online before I got it.
