Anyone have a good source for oversized nut blanks? ERG's are constantly out of spec for a lot of standard blanks. 8-10 string with a fan means I need between 3-3.5" wide blanks. Bone is preferred but open to other materials like micarta etc.
Also, I'm aware I can use wood. I just didnt want to.

GraphTech offers 4" wide blanks meant for bridge saddles, but work fine for a nut.

I use buffalo horn blanks for ERG's.

Genuinely curious if this would work.

But I would pretty much never in a million years put one of those near my power tools. Especially not after pondman's router incident.

I've used them on a couple guitars, crazy as that sounds. Stinks like getting your teeth drilled at the dentist but they're sturdy and cheap as dirt.

Buffalo horn blanks like knife scales? or do you resaw and shape horn itself?

Knife scales are a great idea.

You could also grab a cutoff chunk of Corian countertop. I hear it works pretty well as far as plastics go.

This is a good idea. I thought about bridge saddles before but I really dont like the look of narrow nuts and assumed theyd all be in the 1/8" range. But after checking, they do have 1/4" blanks at that size. So that should work fine. Thanks!
