Hey all,

I've been working on this new series, it's called "One Song, One Amp!" V2 and I'm pretty excited about it. I've done something like this before but this one has more guitars and styles so it will hopefully keep things more interesting... :)

The idea is that I wrote and recorded this song with 8 different guitars and 8 different styles (primarily high-gain) and I reamp this song through ALL my amps. I currently own more than 50 so it will take a while. In the end we will be able to compare all the amps and see how they all sound and respond in this song with its various tones and genres. For some amps, like my more vintage amps, I will need to use pedals to make the most out of them.

Anyway, here's the first one, the ENGL Powerball II! I love this amp. It's versatile so it will set a solid baseline for the amps to follow. The next amp will follow soon in this thread.

Check it out:

Nuts...at first I thought the V2 in the description meant the DSL could take the V2 mod

This is a great thing you're doing. The crunch part around 7 minutes is really telling the differences. I like the BluGuitar and Marshall best so far.

- Having them in this thread and the same format is great. You can cue them all up easy to the same part and compare really fast.

Thanks! :) With the V1 version which contained around 30 amps or so, I did a compilation video with all amps in one video but that ended up being 6.30 hours long. Took very long to render and upload etc and typing out the timecodes was horrible haha. I want to do it again this time but I don't know if it will be worth it. There won't be enough room in the description to add timecodes for each amp as well as all the styles. I might do it for fun anyway but I doubt it will get many views.

ITT: Jon makes 50 amps and 8 guitars all sound awesome. I go try my guitars and amps, and don’t have the same luck.

Jon, one day you’ll have to do a detailed explanation of your recording process, because you’re one of a handful of guys that make me want to buy whatever you demo.

Adding the ENGL Ironball SE to the "archive":

This is one crunchy amp! Tight, so no boost needed! The built-in effects are great too!

Do you have / have you had a Savage 120 or Savage SE to compare it to?

Have you given up on the EVH 50w heads after having a bad experience? Just curious. I still love mine but am not using them anymore really (I'm just using the Stealth power section for my FM9 sometimes). I might end up selling the 6L6.

I still think my 50w EL34 is a cool amp but I'm also not overly excited about it either because of everything that happened. I'll definitely keep it though as it's a unique piece of the collection.
