Strymon Cloudburst.
Wow — I am in love. This thing is so, so lush and professional sounding. I went into the store the other day intending to buy a new case for my 7-string, but when I saw this…it was as though my wallet just jumped out of my pocket. I felt a strange, gravitational pull toward the checkout counter, and the rest is history.
As you can see below from my pedalboard, I wasn’t hurting for reverb sounds, in any way, shape, or form.🤣. This will now become my main reverb sound, and the HOF II will be moved to my workplace rig.
As many of you know, I predominantly play black metal and death metal. I also do a lot of ambient clean/interludes in my writing. That’s where the reverb (and a volume pedal) comes in. I typically stack reverbs to get different flavors and textures for volume swell/pad sounds. This pedal can do it all on its own — but of course I’ve tried it with my Afterneath, Supermoon, and Flashback delay.
The ensemble mode is like a shimmer, but not cheesy/textbook shimmer-like. It sounds way more natural, like a subtle orchestra playing behind you. The first setting is amazing enough, and “forte” goes to 11. That one is pretty much overkill for everything but pure swells/pad sounds. With the ensemble switch off, it can go anywhere from a small reverb to cavernous.
The tone knob has a huge range — going from very dark and warm to almost shrill. You can dial in the reflections perfectly to taste. The modulation is subtle at noon, and faster from there up. I like it at noon.
All in all, I’m super stoked — the cleans I’m getting are the best I’ve ever had. 🍻
