Thread is making me miss my '95 S10. It may have been stupid underpowered with a four banger, but the manual transmission with the aftermarket cruise control made it so much fun on the interstate. Trying to guess which hill or wind gust was gonna force a manual shift was perfect to keep you awake on long drives.

Reading this makes me miss my '83 GMC S15 (the equivalent of an S10). Bought it from my brother. 5 speed manual, no power anything (doors, windows, etc.) - just bare-bones. I loved that truck.

But it made me chuckle when you talked about hills. Driving from my college to my girlfriend's (now wife) college - there were two large hills. Truck only had a 2.8L V6 in it. I would have to get a head of steam going before I reached the hill but it was impossible to get up either one without downshifting.

I love my current truck with everything I want in it, but I would LOVE a little truck with a 5 speed and no frills. So nobody else could drive it (stick shift) and nobody else would want to (no power stuff). But a decent sized engine - that's a must.

Also, reading about ramen noodles and stuff - for a year or more I would watch the Solo Travel Japan videos on YouTube while eating or relaxing. Just a very relaxing way to wind down and interesting to me, to see what food is served there and the different places that person visits.

But now I've been getting recommendations to all these Japanese food videos. POV videos in these little Japanese restaurants, how they start for the day all the way through food prep and eating. The dishes are nothing like I've ever seen and how fast and precisely they make this food - I can watch that for hours.

I used to have a '97 Ford Ranger, with a 2.5L 4-cyl. With the gearing, I could beat a Z71 Silverado off the line to, like, 30--35 mph. That thing was scrappy. But also, because of the gearing, also meant there were some hills I had to downshift.

It was only my 2nd car, after a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera 4-cyl auto, in brown. Just like the one in Fargo. We leased it for $97/mo for 2 years.

3 weeks before the end of the lease, when I was going to turn in the truck, I test drive a used Jeep I was thinking about buying at the end of the Ranger lease. But on the way home, on a February evening, I hit some black ice on a freeway on-ramp. Managed to roll the pickup, even though I only managed to get up to about 25mpg. 😅

I think I miss that truck more than any of my other past vehicles.

Oh man, the way they can cook eggs. I can sit watching that forever.

Those pics of the truck up there remind me of the day my S10 got towed off for the charity shop. It felt like putting down an old pet to me. I still get teared up thinking about it.

I donated my 26 year old Sierra last year to a veterans organization. It hurt letting that thing go.

My daughter couldn't understand why I was so attached to a truck. I just said "you'll never understand". The first truck I ever bought brand-new.

Bought mine 95 Chebby after a girlfriend smashed my first new car. It was the only Chevy in a Ford lot, traded in with less than seven thousand miles on it because the dude decided he didn't like it. Spent a lot of years with that truck feeling like home base as I moved around between other places. Those bonds jerk on the heart strings even if they're "just a truck."

i just noticed this but on my pressing of the vinyl of the weezer blue album, they have the original mix of say it ain't so on it instead of the remix that has been on all pressings since 1995. the original one was on the initial pressings. idk why they did this. i personally think the remix is better.

Well it was a nice run, but I finally have Covid and it sucks. Anyone have my record beaten?
The Mrs. and I got our first positive tests this morning. I might have gotten it during February 2020 (obviously no positive test then) while working at a university with a lot of international students, but this time feels different.

Been very feverish and fatigued (felt like I couldn’t stand up straight this morning), some sinus pressure, runny nose, & nausea but that’s really been it. I have Crohn’s, so I’ve debated taking Paxlovid but I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about side effects. We’ll see how I feel going to bed tonight and waking up tomorrow

Fwiw, I have some health issues so I needed to get an antiviral.... but since among those problems are liver disease, they wouldn't give me paxlovid. They gave me Lagevrio (molnupiravir). I had no side effects other than the lovecraftian bizarro symptoms from hell that I had from Covid itself. Perhaps you can ask about that if you're considering an antiviral.

I hope you and yours feel better soon.
