Re: musicals. I like them. Not all, but some have been really memorable.

"Once" is amazing. "Eddie and the Cruisers" is CLASSIC. "The Greatest Showman" was cool- had some nice songs, and I'm related to the subject of the film somehow (No wonder I'm such a fuckin clown), "Yesterday" (the Beatles one) was great, as was "Blinded By The Light" (the Springsteen one, though it's not exactly a musical technically I guess), La La Land, BLUES BROTHERS.

I like them more than I realized I guess.
the greatest showman was kinda sucky. i had to sing A Million Dreams from it in choir earlier this year so that also didn't help at all. now we're singing Defying Gravity from Wicked which is way better.

Ha, I love that tune you had to sing. But I felt the same way you do but with "Summer Nights" from Grease when I had to sing that ad nauseum in music class when I was a lad.

it's an alright song. it's not the best from tgs though. i just didn't wanna sing it. i would have rather sang summer nights from grease instead.

Inspired by a friend who just saw Meshuggah last night and made a post about them playing Bleed again live..

Obzen is probably my favorite Meshuggah album and every song is a banger BUUUUUT, while it’s a technically impressive I think Bleed is by far the least interesting song on the entire album and usually skip it.

Am I rather alone in this or like…

I love Bleed, but Lethargica (the next track on the album) is my favorite, so I often put Bleed on and let it play from there. I don't necessarily dislike the first two tracks, but when I wanna listen to Meshuggah that's usually how I go about it.

Lethargica is probably my favorite track as well but track 2 fuckin rips, especially when they really open up the softer section. Fuckin sick riff there.

Got a can of Spam. I dunno what to expect and tbh I'm a lil anxious about opening this thing up.

I get that it's "potted meat" but jesus, that in and of itself sounds pretty harsh. And I get that it's edible but if anyone with experience in this dark culinary creation might be able to provide some encouraging words or advice before I take the plunge, it would be appreciated.

How does it even come out of the can? I'm guessing I need to pry it out... like with a knife? ... spoon? I'm prepared for a disgusting "THHHHWACK!" noise so I'm tryin to get my mind right but then.. I fry it in a pan? Like with butter or oil or just by itself? I've got some eggs and salt/ pepper if that might help.

Anyway.. thanks for any tips. Not much else in the house atm and I'm hungry af so I figure it's time.

All the standard implementations are pretty palatable.

Spam breakfast tacos/spam dunch tacos, fried rice, musubi... no matter what you do, you gotta pan fry the slices and get some carmelization on there.

It's just salty ham.

Fry it like you would a fried bologna sandwich and you'll really like it, a little bit of oil, an egg and some cheese and boom, got yourself a nice brunch.

Spam can be really good, I don't eat it a ton but I have friends that love it and I'll indulge every now and then. Great camping protein. It is really well seasoned as is, lots of sodium, so you don't need to add much. It should slide out of the can in a log like form, just slice it or cube it and pan fry it. It goes very well with rice, eggs, bread or whatever.

The others nailed it, but here's my take.

It should slide out on its own but if you need to try loosening the sides with a knife. There's GONNA be a thwack when it hits the cutting board, and ignore the schlorping sound as it slide out.

I find it salty enough on its own so no need to add more.

Slice it up and fry them like sausage patties or bologna. I've never tried cubed but I bet it's just as good with scrambled eggs or fried rice. Just think of it like you're cutting a very large chunk of pork sausage up (Polish-style garlic smoked sausage is the closest thing that comes to mind).

I know it sounds iffy (it in the US), and it might depend on which brand you get, but remember: it's a regular part of Japanese cuisine*.

*I have absolutely no evidence to support this other than a few instances of Japanese media and seeing it on a ball of rice like nigiri.

If you are really intent on getting it out of the can on one pristine piece, you kind of have to heat the can to make the outsides of the meat puck more slick. Then you can get it out in one piece. I remember learning this trick from a YT video a few years back, and it does work, though it's a bit more effort than I normally put in. I usually plunge a butter knife into it to cut a sort of "V" shape (point down) wedge in the middle, then remove that, and then the two sides should be pretty easy to pull out with the center wedge removed.

It's cooked in the can, so technillly it's safe to eat right from the can, but not recommended. Searing and getting a crispy browning is key. No extra fat is needed. It's a bit like canned corned beef that way. It already has plenty.

IMO, when cooking diced spam in a pan, the fat that renders out doesn't taste very good as a cooking fat for other things, like eggs. It's too salty, and I don't care for the poek/ham taste in other ingredients. So if I'm having Spam and Eggs, I'll cook the spam, then I'll drain out the fat, and maybe even wipe the pan, then cook the eggs normally.

slice it, coat it in teriyaki and pan fry the slices, then put it on rice. Et voila, Spam Teriyaki bowl. If you put it in sushi rolls with dried seaweed then it's spam musubi.

I'm a sucker for when guitar manufacturers have unique hardware.

These replies help so much to reduce my fears! I'm actually intrigued now!

This is exactly what I needed. I like the idea of heating it up a bit to add some lubrication to the "meat puck". And very understandable regarding the fry method. Glad that it does in fact crisp up a bit cause my perceived notion of the texture/ composition was quite off-putting. I've made scrapple before and have sliced it thin but then dredged in flour and used oil or lard which I'll avoid this time. Also glad I asked b/c my instinct would typically be to use salt which I'll now omit. No teriyaki in the house... otherwise that sounds good. Out of rice too atm but I do have eggs and a couple hot sauces that might complete this. Man, I'm glad I asked.

Thanks, guys for your guidance getting this meat into my mouth. I'm ready!

What's that nu-metal/butt rock song that had Zakk Wylde playing guitar, and then the singer looked kinda like a mini-me of him. Setting was a grimey ass house with a party going on, maybe someone playing on the ceiling or could just be the disorienting camera.

Not the p@rnstar song with Nickelback.
