And just like that the Pens look like the team that lost 7 in a row again... They blew a 4 goal lead against Detroit last night.

3 on my Habs tonight.

With no secondary scoring, teams have finally realized that all they have to do is shut down Suzuki and Caufield. I think we've already seen the best that this roster has to offer earlier this season. The losing streak that we are on and the extent to which we are getting outscored are rather indicative of this team coming down to earth, back in-line with people's predictions going into the season.

Felt bad for Allen in that game. Caufield had a couple of nice goals though.

I like to imagine that you've been keeping count of how many of those L's you could pin on Petry. What's that up to now?

Honestly I think only 2 were directly due to stupid penalties or bad defense from him... and he's off the hook since IIRC he's been out this entire losing streak.

So you're saying you would prefer them not to win the Stanley Cup

I'd like to, but again, I'd like to also be able to afford to see them live again before I die and they somehow stagnant at "slightly above average" or the aforemention 32-4-4 at what, halfway thru the season?

Habs organization had a random night to honour PK Subban and gave him a microphone with a few minutes to speak pre-game.

Retired and all-but-retired, one last time:

Caufield is out for the rest of the season and will have a surgery for his shoulder.

Came out of nowhere but at least its the perfect season to loose the top goal scorer of the team. Just hopes that he'll be able to stay healthy later on in his career when (if) they make an actual run for the playoff

Tanking hard to try to win that #1 pick  (while the Pens are playing JUST well enough to probably lose in the first round and not get a really good draft slot again...)

That is a shame about Caufield though, kid has talent.

The offer a little more perspective on the impact this will have, here are the current top 5 goal scorers on the roster.

caufieldimpact.png

He has more goals than a combined 18 out of the 25 other players on the roster that have played a game this season (isolating the lowest goal scorers first) :ugh:

The only question is will this season be worst than last? Look out Chicago, Bedard here we come :partyhat:

Pretty sure that if the Habs had a shot at the playoff, they'd have delayed the surgery as it sounds like he was playing with the injury for a while so it might just be preventive.

But yeah, given the prospect pool for the draft, tanking might also had been one of the deciding factor. Lets not forget that the amount of injured players right now is ludicrous (Drouin, Slafkovsky, Byron, Monahan, Guhle, Gallagher, Allen and probably some other that I'm forgetting).

I feel you on the injuries... before last night Jarry, Letang, Petry, Ruuta, Petterson were all out. Petterson has been in and out, but having 4 of your top 6 injured while your starting goaltender is out is never good  Pens play Jersey tomorrow so I expect them to get killed even though Jarry is back. They gave up 45 shots to Ottawa last night.

I actually wonder if they were giving him the opportunity to make a case for and be selected to the All Star game. Yesterday they announced the final players to make the cut. It would have been good to expose him to that environment, similar to Suzuki not too long ago.

I read something very interesting a few days ago. Highlighting that we have been top 5 for games lost to injury for I forget for how many consecutive seasons now, last season being #1 by a wide margin, it really put into question our medical staff's decision making and suggests that they could very well all be replaced between now and during the offseason. Players coming back from injury too soon, only to play a few games and to drop again with the same injury.
