    Hello, peeps.

You may remember me from this thread: http://www.sevenstring.org/threads/talk-to-me-about-the-prs-s2-singlecut-dark-cherry-burst.333603/ where I ultimately decided to buy a PRS S2 semihollow.

I am fucking incredibly happy. 2015 PRS S2 Semihollow Singlecut. $1300 USD shipped, with hardshell case. Not a bad price. May seem high to some of you but it'll become clear soon why this was a good price as far as I was concerned.

The guitar was absolutely spotless, mint condition, no fret wear. Neck profile is a little fatter than I am used to but I can get used to it. I've been an Ibanez RG652FX user for a very long time now but this might become my daily driver now. Flawless fret work, flawless finish.

Two things that stand out to me:

    1) This guitar is about 7 lbs. Funnily enough, this guitar, a semihollow, is heavier than my solid body Ibanez (6.4 lbs) which is light as a feather.

    2) The most gorgeous top I have ever seen on a PRS S2. I had the option to buy a 1300 dollar PRS CE22, but the top on that looked kinda washed out. Similarly, other PRS S2's I found on reverb also had similarly unimpressive looking tops. Image attached. Admittedly it's a really bad cellphone pic but it makes it abundantly clear that it's a bloody gorgeous top. The top ALONE makes is worth the price in my opinion.

Now the ONE thing I'd change: pickups.
They are EXTREMELY muddy. Splitting them seems to make a not-too-big difference. Enormous lower midrange emphasis, possibly due to the construction of the guitar as well. So if you guys have any suggestions for pickups in this guitar, feel free to leave them in the thread. I'm thinking of a PAF Master/Bluesbucker combination.

Thanks for reading, and I will post a nicer set of pictures when I can get a better camera in here.

    Cheers everyone!

    Thanks dude!
Please leave me a pickup recommendation if you can. As I said I find the stock #7's very muddy and bloaty. Considering the PAF Master/Bluesbucker for replacements.

What are you going for sound wise? What's your rig looking like?

If things are just crazy muddy and bassy, perhaps consider swapping to 1meg ohm pots.

Pickup wise, I'm boring. My favorite set for LP (which is basically what this is) style guitars is the classic DiMarzio PAF Pro set, as far as "all rounders" go.

Have you played with pickup height?

    Alnico II PAFs may help.

Then we do think alike: I'm going for a pretty PAFy vibe too.

Pickup heights is something I never considered: I'm dumb, sorry. Let me try that.

Dimarzio PAF 36th Annies work great in that guitar.

Update: Drastically lowering the bridge pickup helped a bit but now I can perceive a volume difference between the neck and the bridge. And the Neck pickup won't go any lower
DiMarzio 36th's: AH RIGHT those exist
PAF Masters seem to be a chill version of the same thing as far as I can tell. They seem to fit the bill rather nicely. I'll take a look into 36th's too!

Love my S2 semi-hollow. Your top is nicer. Cool yours has the updated bridge. Hope you figure out the pups. Congrats!

S2’s are for people that want an American PRS but that know they’re going to want to swap pickups. That’s why I personally like them. Though stock pickups have been better with the newer 85/15 S pickups. I’ve played the 36th’s in this one and an SE Singlecut, and they’re outstanding.

I was amazed that my satin sounded prett6 good stock. The only reason I consider swapping now is because its not on tour duty. That means experimenting wont mwss with my live sound :yesway:. Still sounds good though!

That looks phenomenal. One of the prettiest S2's I've seen.

    Congrats! Nice PRS!

Although not the same model, I have BKP Black Dogs in my singlecut, and they are perfect in it..

Update: I'm inquiring with banjomikez for a PAF Master/Bluesbucker set in brushed nickel. :)
