For a long time I wanted to have a 7 string which is comfortable to play, lightweight, set-neck or neck-through construction and which has Jackson style sharkfin inlays 🤓

As it was impossible to find as a standard guitar I was thinking about getting a custom built one for several years. After playing some multiscale guitars over the years I decided that this concept seemed logical and appealing to me.

I met Jan from aviator in 2022 on the guitar summit in Mannheim, Germany and fell in love with the aviator-way of building guitars. The ones they had on the trade show were so incredible well to play and extremely thin and light which made me progress towards specing and ordering one.

The ordering process was very slick. My questions (and I had many) were answered quickly and very kindly with a lot of experience and recommendations.
As I have the bad habbit of resting my pinky on the pickup frame while playing, Aviator made a special design "pinky rest" for me which you can see on the fotos ☺️

Build time was about 7 months.

It arrived last week and took some pictures for your entertainment 😉

The instrument came in a custom made and tightly fitting case. The guitar is extremly well built and especially the bindings and inlays are amazing! The fretwork is perfect. I had some worries that it might get a bit head-heavy due to the heavier neck materials but it hangs in the strap very nicely balanced. The neck profile and the thin body make it so easy to play and to handle. The multiscale for me also feels like the right decision. As it is a slight fan only I can easily switch from a standard 26.5" to this one, while the fan feels much more comfortable to play for wide stretched chords. Overall I can just say that I fell in love with it from the first play! I am already thinking about getting a clone with 6 Strings 😅

Thanks! I am in fact planning a straight 25.5". I play a D# tuning on my 6 strings and thus string tension etc. seem more balanced. When you have a 6 string with the same fan it would be more extreme as 1st = 26.6", 6th = 25.5" instead of 7th = 25.5".

Also I would use it for my other, "less progressive" band, so multiscale might not fit the look.

But be it multiscale or not does not change the price so much - so you could select.

Very nice indeed!
Would you tell us what you paid?
Thanks! Sure, I paid 3415€ including case, shipment and taxes for Germany (ordered September 2022). I think prices went up a bit recently because of the massive inflation due to Ukraine War.

Allright! The price seems reasonable. Aviator is from the Czech Republic, I believe? 7 months is quite quick for a custom instruments :)

Looks cool!
I thought the fan was going to be larger, but maybe its the inlays playing tricks on me

Yea the price is good for the quality of the instrument!! Aviator are from Czech Republic, yes.
They also supplied me with pics and updates during the built, which made me feel like beeing part of the built process.

Oh yea I think so too... I thought "mhhh sharkfin 90ties look with multiscale 2023... nooo way" BUT after I did some rough drawings/mockups with powerpoint I came to the decision that I like the look a lot!

... please, share your findings...
Well I found by google picture search that the guy is Chris Hansen, who is an american TV-host that is known for a reality series called "to catch a predator". The guitar shape is called "predator" as well. The content of the series (haunting child abusers) is less relevant for John's joke here, I guess/hope...

Your axe turned out very nice man! I Love the look of the shark fin inlays with the fanned frets! And the black colour combined with the all body white binding looks sleek :)

I visited aviator in their workshop twice to visit Jan and to chat about my own custom build during the last 12 months. I think I saw your instrument in the final steps and it turned out so cool! Happy to see another aviator after a successful guitar summit (I met aviator guitar there for the first time as well and ordered my custom build afterwards :hbang:)
