Hey guys, I am fairly new to recording music and am extremely new to producing YouTube videos. Below you find a link to my song Awakened. Let me know what you think of the video quality, sound quality, angles, and any other tips or constructive criticism. Thank you!

The video is fine, is it shot with a phone?

The composition itself is actually fine, but I would just practice those parts and get them tighter before putting it out there. The bass/guitar being off time makes it a tad jarring when the bass is so high in the mix, nothing wrong with putting out videos though keep it up as a way to look back on your efforts as you improve and you can always compare.

But yeah, definitely slow it down and get those parts down tighter in the recording process, work on the mix a bit and make sure elements like the bass aren't drowning out the other instruments. Keep it up!

Thank you very much! This was the first song I recorded by myself and I absolutely learned a lot. I truly appreciate the feedback. I feel like I am to close to my mix/mastering and focus on certain nuances to fix. I need to start making mix notes that I can refer to like a checklist. On another note, are you a 12 series in the Army? I see the picture with NODs and it says engineer.

Absolutely man, you're doing more than most do in the first place. So putting your music out there will always pay off.

And no I haven't served in the military, just a funny picture I found a long time ago!

I thought the video and visual production was well done. I don’t want to discourage you because the playing wasn’t bad and I can tell you are good but the mix/tone/tightness wasn’t working for me. I do think there was a lot of good composition and song detail but maybe not practiced as well as it could be.

I would say that if you simplified the song a bit so you pull it off a little better, got the mix balanced out, and decreased the noise on the guitar (drop gain a smidge or noise gate/compression) That you will be getting followers in no time.

Thank you for the honest feed back. I am changing my DAW for sure. I get a lot of clipping, latency, and it even throws off time unless I go back and line up stems. (Here I come Reaper haha). As for tone, I agree. I just recently got myself a set of Studio Monitors so hopefully I can salvage this song enough before I re-release it.

This was my first song writing and recording all parts by myself. I came into saying "how hard could it be?" Haha

If you are getting a lot of latency, try to take off any VSTs or production effects and record everything as dry as possible. You can add the production later on. Actively running several effects really kills most computers when you are recording.

That makes a lot of sense. I havent had as much of an issue since I changed from Bias FX to Neural DSP products
