I understand. Classic designs will always be the front runner of sales, but I too would love to see more builders trying some different shapes...even proven ones like the explorer or star. But I understand that is a limited market.

Yeah, limited but fans of those sorta extreme shapes are die hard ones. I love Strats myself, but every brand needs to have some "aggro" shapes too (unless you have unlimited sales granted from your more basic models, like Fender does).

I mean, who wouldn't love a USA made E-1 with this look? It's just the binding in place of rounded edges that kinda kills it

I referenced a few posts before my Schecter Tele that a friend wanted to duplicate with a few changes. I snapped a few pics in the light to illustrate what I am talking about concerning handwork and price. Adding features like these, although small details, raise the price considerably. I purchased the guitar from a collector because I knew I would not want to afford a build like this in the future, and the price we agreed upon was greatly in my favor given this level of work. Here is the headstock. You can see the logo is inlaid, and you can also see there is MOP binding on the edge of the fretboard. You can also see the MOP blocks are split to include an abalone inaly within the block. This carries all the way up the neck as you can see in the picture.

The body is a bent top tele, also somewhat of an upgrade over a flat slab. The body is bound to the outside with cream binding and then MOP inside of that. Hard to photograph so I put it in direct sunlight. If this were to be done by ESP, TA, Suhr, Fender, etc I would guess the upcharge would be considerable. This can be done with CNC now, but this guitar is from 1996, and a loupe will reveal imperfections here and there telling me it was all done by hand.

There was a USA made E1 floating around with a walnut top a few years ago that was amazing. But you are right, they don't have one in the USA lineup, and a V 1 would be nice as well.

There was some good information posted since my last reply, so I appreciate people providing some inside knowledge of buying guitars at this price point.
I do not doubt the quality of the instruments and actually and quite curious about USA Schecters... wondering if I could swing a shop tour or something since they are not far from me.

I suppose it's just jarring to see the prices of custom shop guitars when I've bough a classic car for less money haha!

Well, my advice is don’t ever get into top-tier acoustics. You can pretty much get whatever you want in the electric guitar world, within reason (no solid gold inlays, and stuff like that), for probably 10 to 12 K.

That’s entry-level for handmade top-tier acoustics. Many of them are a solid 25 to 40 K. Absolutely ridiculous… until you see how much work goes into making one.

If you want a USA Schecter, buy used. They are still criminally undervalued, You can pick up a Custom Shop for less than a high end Korean Import Schecter.

Yeah, those first two were absolutely terrible. But I've seen some crackles from the Schecter Custom Shop before, so it isn't a new thing. They just don't seem to do it very often.
