Anybody got this pedal? I was interested because how simple it looks, only heard tones for like 80s rock, anybody used like a Ts9 or Sd-1 to boost it? Like can it do some modern metal stuff, if not can it do much-metal, metal core, etc. ?

This should be essentially an 80s era Rockman headphone amp in a pedal format, so I wouldn’t expect it to do anything modern.

I'm sorry for the snarky answer but

Serious answer:
No, it's going to sound like Boston, Hysteria-era Def Leppard, and every other '80s pop/pop rock record. And it's already artificially compressed to hell and back so I feel like a boost won't do jack. The only "modern metal" thing it can do is that Tesseract-style super-compressed DI clean tone.

maybe with some emg's
It's been awhile since I used a Rockman, but from what I remember it's such a compressed piece of gear, that different guitars or pickups make little difference lol

Honestly if you're dead-set on a small all-in-one piece of gear, the Ampero Mini is the exact same pricd.

It'll sound like Black Cat by Janet Jackson as well.

I don't think someone chasing modern metal would buy that anyway....well they shouldn't.....

I was thinking of one to offload dsp for a clean model in the Helix but there's way cheaper options. Like a Mooer micro preamp or hell a ToneX One is cheaper then get a capture of it. It's for "The Thing" and the thing is Hysteria or Boston.

I mean if you want an approximation of a JC120 clean, it's great. It's an all in one deal. Otherwise yeah, you're right about just getting one of the cleaner Mooer preamp pedals.

I built a patch in my GT-1000 Core, which is in that vein, but tweaking it to my likes. I was going back and forth between that and another model in the GT-1000 Core, and settled on that one. It is in the Dream Warriors/Hysteria realm. I could've probably gotten the sound (compressor, clean EQ, chorus, etc) closer, but I wanted to make some slight changes to it while still being in the ballpark. Plus, I have have a rotary speaker, trem, and vibrato I can use.
