Can you name albums (if possible, death metal) which contains songs with very different vibe, structure, even could belong to another subgenre?

I often ran into albums where all the songs sound the same, they are one-trick pony, there aren't enough differenc, they are all riff-salads.

I love when a song revolves around a good idea, riff, or a certain vibe, like GOAT, Gateways from Morbid Angel 🥹

Between the Buried and Me- Colors.

Hands down. There are death metal parts, metalcore, power metal, Operatic parts, chicken pickin' country, soft melodic singing to full on death growls, shit there's even a polka part.

The album flows like water from beginning to end, give it a shot.

Came here to say this. Also simply one of the greatest metal albums ever recorded. It stands head and shoulders above anything it could be compared to, including their own work.

They have it on the jukebox at the dive bar I tend at off and on, when I'm working the closing shift and it's time for everyone to go I put on Ants of the Sky and crank it to 11.

Literally have Ants of the Sky playing in my ear right now, Paul absolutely makes the guitar his absolute sex slave in that song.

EDIT: Actually, I'll go ahead and say it, probably best metal album ever created, you're totally correct. I can't even think of an album that holds a candle to the expertise of this album, from the musicians to the engineers and producers who helped arrange the album, just all absolute masters of their craft.

Do any of these more progressive bands release work that is primarily instrumental? I was really excited to listed to Colors until I hit the growl vocals. I like to think my musical sensibilities are pretty flexible, but growl vocals ruin it for me, and I just can’t see my way around it. I know; I am Hank Hill.

Get out.

Feel like i need to add that this is a joke and I'm totally capable of understanding not all music is for all people.

That being said, get the fuck out.

Babymetal. Most of their songs are designed to emulate a specific style, so in the same album you might find xxxxmetal and yyyymetal and zzzzzmetal songs. I understand japanese lyrics might be an issue, but give it a try. Not all songs are good, but some are. (Megistune, Akatsuki and Metal Resistance are *really* good, the latter two have a strong XJapan reminiscence)
I more or less stopped following them when they fired one of the girls but it's worth a listen even if there's nothing revolutionary in it.

Opeth is a pretty obvious one to go along with BTBAM.

I would say Rivers of Nihil - The Work, and Where Owls Know My Name

Also The Ocean- Pelagial
