Considering that Digitech just recently released a Whammy with a Drop Tune feature Morpheus gives a resounding answer.

    The Morpheus Bomber.

    Proprietary polyphonic pitch Shifter
    Pitch up a 2nd, 5th, 1 octave or 2 full octaves
    Pitch down a 2nd, 4th, 5th 1 octave or 2 full octaves
Features a 3 octave foot controlled Dive Bomb!
Incredible tremolo Duplicates all the stunts of a whammy bar!
    Rear panel trim control
Rear panel TRIM LEVEL control with front panel LED level display
IN, OUT and power supply jacks (power supply included)
Rear panel USB port for software updates
    Patent Pending
    Rugged cast-metal chassis
    Two-year limited warranty

Looks like it's biggest gimmicks are the footswitch controls (much like on the Whammy II and Whammy/Wah), a USB port for updates, and it's polyphonic nature - hence, big chord whammy antics without that digital garble glitch you'd usually get from other pitch shifting units.

As a Whammy enthusist, I may have to try these out. :yum:

Regular whammy has trouble with polyphonics I take it?
    Pretty cool stuff there.

I also just realised that this doesn't have any Harmoniser features.

whammys never tracked notes that well, but that was apart of the charm. Having those weird shudding notes in the mix became iconic for digitech.
the new Whammy is 500$ though....no thanks.

i would like to try out the Bomber though...that sounds interesting.

    the bass demo was HORRIBLE

The whammy + downtune is 500$? wtf? I'll just go the eventide + expression pedal route at that rate (I might just go that route anyway)

The "glitch garble" was one of the things I loved about my whammy pedal. It was not a perfect unit, it could not handle chords at all really, but I still thought it was great. I'd be interested to see just how "perfect" the tracking on this new Whammy DT really is.

The EHX Ring Thing also does polyphonic pitch shifting, in addition to its tunable ring modulation and other features. You'd need to add an expression pedal for Whammy-style shifting, but the combo is still cheaper than the new Whammy and more versatile than the Bomber.

I think the Morpheus pedals sound a lot better than the Whammy, so this has the potential to be pretty great, and it's cool that you can change the mode with your feet, unlike the Whammy.
