pointless anecdote time: briefly met Tosin and Ken Susi at a Fishman clinic at the local music store a number of years back. ("met" as in fistbumped and said hi, that was the extent of it. I don't like pestering people, esp. when they're busy.) I bought one of Tosin's practice / technique demo DVDs, which Ken was handling and hustling off to the side. I figured that was a more direct way to support the artist than buying a set of pickups I didn't need. Ken jacked the price five or ten bucks higher than what they'd mentioned before the clinic and was presumably pocketing the difference?

Tosin was chill (and high af, I think he floated in on a cloud of weed smoke hahaha) and passing around his custom guitar (Falbo Abasi days) for folks to try out. Susi somehow managed to condescend to me multiple times in a ~30 sec. transaction where I gave him cash for a DVD, which was hilarious and almost impressive. posterboy of the intersection of "cocksure" and "smarmy" if there ever was one. I don't think anyone around or under 20 even knew who he was, which made it even funnier. what a maroon.

Back in 2008 I won a contest to meet the band before the show (this was the headlining tour for The March with Protest the Hero supporting). It was mostly Buz and Ken because the 2 other kids were also nerdy guitar players. I remember them both being really cool guys. Passed around some LACs and talked about how the band got to where they were. Then we all got kicked off when the vocalist walked in with a 30-pack

I bought tickets to see PTH but left as a big Unearth fan. Great night.

Dude is a "friend of friends" on facebook and just by seeing some of his interactions, the best description I can come up for the guy is Justin Long's character in "Barbarian." This is not a compliment.

Also, interesting fact if you notice Buz and Pete both have capos at the first fret of their guitars. I was watching the live set of when this was filmed and they are the same guitars they use on Incinerate which is Drop A. This may actually be their first A# song? Explains the In Flames vibe i get from some parts of it. peep about 24 mins in to this. :hbang:

Edit : Damn, looks it got taken down or it's region locked. LAME

Not the biggest metalcore fan here, but I gotta admit I like this a lot. Then again Unearth always were one of the few metalcore bands I actually listen to, I like that they're straight out heavy all the time without the pop-rubish that most metalcore bands do. I kinda missed their previous album, but I blasted Watchers of Rule a lot when it came out, killer album that one...

at the time, I chalked it up to the guy having an off day or stroking his ego in the most counterproductive way possible. why not at least pretend to be polite-ish for a few seconds and indirectly promote your band / gain a new fan? shrug.
I later came across his "customer support" interactions in the Fishman pickup thread. IIRC he was actively insulting aftermarket customers for having questions re: poorly documented (or nonexistent?) technical schematics

anyhow, I dig the track and metalcore isn't something I usually gravitate towards. good shit.

Agreed, Im pretty picky with the genre, and never got into the overproduced gimmicky stuff with over used autotuned cleans. Unearth have got to be one of the best if not the best in the genre in my opinion, they perfectly mix Iron Maiden/In Flames melody with the aggression of Pantera and Crowbar with some Earth Crisis thrown in for good measure. If that's not a textbook definition of "Metalcore" then i dont know what is. 😂 They influenced Parkway Drive (early albums before they became buttrock) and August Burns Red pretty heavily and both of those bands ended up getting more well known. Shame they never got the recognition they deserve :noplease:

And Man Watchers Of Rule was something else, that's still one of my top albums to Workout to. :hbang:

I've listened to it a few times and while I like, there's something just sounds off? Like too much reverb/echo/something on the vocals and drums that sounds too airy(?)

Maybe ESP can put some binding on Buz's sig so I can pick one up without feeling like I should have just gotten the Head LTD instead.

Oh yea, more albums after In the Eyes of Fire. Cool, the three I already have don't do much for me though. Somebody @ me when they remaster TSOC.

Their Sumerian stuff and going more commercial lost me pretty good. I loved the oncoming storm (when i found out about them), learned stings of conscience on my 6 and finally got to see them in 2022? 2021? After listening to them since TOS was preorder on myspace.

I had also unfollowed Ken over politics so Im not thaat surprised that followed into the band (or thar AILD doesnt care lol).

Watchers was great so I’ll check this out.

Hopefully we are in for a treat then because according to some interviews i have seen with Trevor and Buz recently, this album shares a lot in common with Watchers. :metal:

It has binding, but it’s black next to the ebony board. Easy to miss.
