Same for the wah pedal, he's used that even in the Puppets live era.

I've never gotten the hate for the wah pedal...I mean have you ever listened to Cream?

As long as you're not using it to cover up mistakes (and we've all fucking done it) it's one of the greatest effects of all time. It's like when EVH adds that little bit of flanger or phaser.

RTL and MOP are my all-time favorites and a lot has to do with Kirk's solos. Those albums were ground breaking at the time and still hold up to this day.

I dare say everyone on this forum or guitarist they were influenced by can play at least one (no pun intended) Metallica song, if not several...

Kirk has done many, many great solos. His work on Justice/Master in particular showed Jim at the height of his 'chops'.

Lars is way sloppier than Kirk ever was or will be.

This is god awful playing on all levels. He plays rhythm like a guitarist who’s been playing for 3-4 years max. And his solos are disasters - Out of key notes that sound terrible, bad bending, bad vibrato, and off time.

Once upon a time Kirk was a good guitarist in a great band. But, Kirk was never great himself. He did have some iconic solos. The Nirvana Smells Like Teen Spirit is an iconic solo. That doesn’t make it “great” by any other metric other than its iconic and it fits. Let’s stop pretending he’s a great guitarist.
