Hey guys! I'm new here in the forum and also completely new to 7 string guitars. I just bought a used 2015 Jackson JS22-7 DKA for about a little more than $100. I'm quite surprised with this guitar, for an entry level instrument, it is quite impressive, feels like a $500-700 range guitar. Not Joking.
One of my hobbies is modifying guitars, it could be changing the finish, or upgrading hardware and electronics. This guitar won't be the exception, and pretty soon it will begin the process of being slowly modified. This is what I have in mind, I would appreciate any advice and tips for this project:
Finish: This is what I'll do first, since I hate black only guitars. I'm thinking of a "lambo orange" type finish, or a light blue or purple, matte finishes. I don't have a paint gun, so I use regular spray paint, (done it before, it looks ok I believe). I have my doubts regarding the type of paint, for some reason over here in my country there isn't a huge selection of spray paint, so I won't probably find a satin or matte orange spray paint, can I use a regular glossy Rust O leum spray paint and then just finish it off with a matte clear coat?

Pickups: This my friends, is probably the most important part of the whole mod. This guitar right out of the box is quite good for the price, but the pickups...these are worse than seeing a puppy die in a fire, so they have to go. I don't have the cash right now, but will definitely buy them sometime in the next 2-3 months. I play mostly metal like Pantera, Lamb of God, Slayer, Jason Becker and many other shred styled music, GnR, also play a lot of blues and funk clean rhythm guitar, but I've been always interested in down tuned prog/djent, tech death style of playing (Meshuggah, Necrophagist, Rings of Saturn, Periphery, any Keith Merrow project, Berried Alive, Veil Of Maya, and a lot more). I'm torn between the 3 following options. a) Fishman Fluence 7 modern humbucker set. b) Pegasus/Sentient set with coil tap possibilites. c) Bareknuckle Warpig or Nailbomb set. Any suggestions? Do I have to route the body with any of these choices? Because I'm screwed if I do, I don't have any wood working skills.
Additional mods: Ironage LED killswitch. Graphtech TUSQ nut. Fretboard staining (trying to make it look a little bit more like ebony). Hipshot locking tuners sometime in a near future.
