Safe to assume that. I don't think stainless frets ever made it into any of their production guitars except for the signature models like the broderick soloists or juggernauts.

What's weird to me is how qualities of nickel can vary so much. Most of my guitars have it except for like 2, but most of them it holds up pretty well. My old 2008 RR24 though, I wore that thing down so hard in certain areas that there were visible grooves on the frets and the notes wouldn't ring out properly. Admittedly, I played it a lot. I used to practice at least 5 hours a day, 5 or 6 days a week on that guitar. My other guitars I've probably played just as much by this point, especially my LTD, but the fret wear isn't nearly as obvious. Because of that situation though I do prefer stainless on anything I can get it on at this point.

USA Select + Custom Select + Loomis SL7

The whole fam

Figured now was a good time to take a pic of all my Jacksons since it had been a while and some gear comes and goes.

Top row: SL2H, SL1, Custom Select SL2, Loomis SL7
Bottom row: SLAT3-7, DK2M, DXMG, DX10D body + DK2 neck mutt

The SL1 is going in for a stainless refret tomorrow. Not sure if I posted about getting it, but I got it for a good price from a seller in Hong Kong, but that thing was in ROUGH shape. Replaced all electronics last year, had to get the bridge posts relocated because apparently it was a B stock with all the strings too far to the treble side due to a misplaced bridge route. All metal parts were corroded, and the finish heavily yellowed and covered in gunk. The frets had massive divots and after leveling and crowning they are unacceptably low. So, it's been an ordeal to save this guitar, but a fun project!

How does the Loomis feel compared to the SL1 or SL2H? I know it's got a longer scale length, but is the neck similar in thickness?

I might seek one out to try one of these days as I've only heard good things from others.

If feels kind of like my custom select. The neck is a bit flatter in the middle compared to the SL2H or SL1. The matte paint is nearly as nice as the matte oil finished neck on the custom select.

Honestly, I don't notice the difference in scale length except that it requires me to put on thinner gauge strings for the same tuning.

Truthfully, it does not play much differently compared to my CS and USA Select. Somewhat better-playing than the SLAT3-7. Jackson's pro series stuff hadn't been that great for several years, but it seems that it's been steadily improving. People forget that the old MIJ line had lots of duds. It's just that what is left from those guitars are the good ones.

I wouldn't think twice about another MIK Jackson after this experience.

^ The Korean Jacksons I've played have all been good. I've been kinda looking for a DK7 modern to show up used, because the one's I've played have been pretty damn good.

You guys have some rad guitars. I just got my first Jackson recently. I tried a js42 at guitar center and really liked the neck so I ordered a cheap one online. Seems like only GC and MF carry this model.

The QC was not great in some areas, but this was a really inexpensive guitar. The bridge is coated in a non-conductive material so I had to scrape a bunch off to ground the strings. Why would they even do this?

Since I had the bridge off I put a JB in the bridge. It now plays pretty nice. I really like this style neck. It’s the real highlight of this guitar.

I don't think I have posted this one up before. I can't let go of the 80's guitars and this Charvel speaks to that. It's a translucent stain with black painted stripes. The work was done by Dan Lawrence. I love it because it is not painted like all the other bengals I see. It has a birdseye top over alder. DiMarzio PAF in the neck and Nazgul in the bridge. Sounds and plays killer.
The other thing I like about Charvel bengals is that the entire body is painted, not just the front.

this just arrived this morning, guitar is in great shape, I can't plug it in until later so I don't know about the stock Jackson pickups
but I've got an Alnico NailBomb/Classic stack+/heavy blues II ready to go in , just in case. the necks on these XL's are definitely thinner than the "pro's or USA soloists I've owned.
maybe 'Speed profile' on these ? A fret board/fret polish is coming later today with a string change

All the XLs have a pretty cool neck profile that's a little thinner than the standard Soloist profile, IMO. I love my Dinky XLs neck.
The Jackson pickups will suck.

I've been having DK2 gas hard lately, probably gonna end up grabbing one of the local ones that are available, I just need to unload another guitar before that one on top of the other guitar I've got one the way.

well the wiring is messed dup everything is completely muffled with no out put :(
good thing I was swapping them out anyway, but it would've been nice to have been able to hear them regardless,
but it looks like I'm dropping her off tomorrow at the Axe Palace and Victor will swap out everything for me.
Trem is pretty stiff is that the 580_LP ? I do have my eye on a Schaller just in case

Looks like a 580lp. OFR is a drop-in replacement for those if so. You can even reuse the posts.

I'd replace the posts with the Schaller ones - or buy a Gotoh and some WD posts, which is what I did with the Dinky XL. The 580lp is horrible, IMO.

I believe this was the "better" trem that Pros went out with from 90-92 pretty good price, I can't find a 37mm brass bock for it thought (OFR block won't line up)
this trem besides being very stiff doesn't always come back to perfect pitch
so which of these ?
or should I go for the vintage OFR?

Anyone played the MJ SL2? I like the look of the black one with the white neck binding. I generally trust Japanese-made guitars, so I assume it's a fine guitar.
