This is no longer a "pantera" thread.

It's about 4 racist pieces of shit that need to be cancelled. Two of them are dead thankfully, two more to go ⚰️⚰️⚰️⚰️
I mean you're not wrong, but is this the place to start up a conversation about Israel-Palestine? Im completely on your side, but not the place, please.

Good four. :agreed:

Though I'd probably throw Cannibal Corpse in the mix, they're sort of the Metallica of Death Metal. Who else? Maybe Death or Obituary? Though maybe that's too much early Florida sound.

I was going to say Cannibal because they are for sure the most successful of them. I like them too, I was just making my 4. It was pretty hard for me to not throw Immolation, Nocturnus, or Cynic up there as well.

As far as Morbid Angel goes, I'd be down if we're talking Steve Tucker Morbid. Keep evil elvis far away from me lol.

By how much we personally like the band of course.

Basically this.

My DM Big Four would be Cannibal Corpse, Death, Deicide, and Suffocation.

I'm tempted to replace Death with Immolation, but that's purely because I like and listen to them more. I'm capable of acknowledging that Death has a much bigger place in the history of the genre.

It was almost a coin toss between Suffocation and Morbid Angel for me. I like them both and think they're both important historically, but my tastes lean a bit more Suffo nowadays.

I’d pick Death, Morbid Angel, Carcass, and Obituary.

But, I don’t know, I like many bands and some were really influential.

Cannibal Corpse are like the Metallica of DM, they should be there (but I don’t like CC that much to be honest…)

Along them Morbid Angel and Deicide were quite successful (considering we’re talking about death metal) for a short period of time in the 90s. And MTV aired Don’t Care by Obituary quite often. They’d play stuff from Entombed and Carcass too.

I don’t think Death was ever commercially successful. Their music was less catchy and the lyrics and imagery rarely controversial.

I think many are forgetting or are too young to remember that Morbid Angel had so much hype behind them that Covenant was released on a major label; Giant records(same label as Air Supply and Kenny Rogers), a subsidiary of Warner Brothers.. in 1993. That's a huge feat, I can't think of any other death metal band having that level of commercial mainstream attention and/or success. That's worthy of big 4 placement.

Carcass went on to Columbia records (subsidiary of Sony). The wikipedia for them lists Beyonce, David Bowie, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand among many other names. It seemed to destroy the band. and they broke up soon after, but that's the mainstream attention that they had.

Nelson is infinitely better than Slayer.
Brett Garsed > Slayer Guitarists

To be fair:
A brick > Slayer Guitarists

I would take Nelson over Slayer any day. Nelson is light hearted, musically inoffensive, and actually kinda fun.
Slayer is....Slayer. And their fans are neck and neck with the most insufferable fanbase of all time with Pantera. Those two are definitely in the top 3 of worst fans.
Thanks for reminding me of Nelson, now I wanna listen to their stuff.
Sure, you guys say this now. But if you were under 20 in 1991?

Granted, Slayer's guitarists never really were players, until Holt was in there. But I still dig some of what they did back in the day. Lots of derp among the fans though. Honestly, I always thought the over-the-top fans were the worst part of Slayer. Barring, of course, Kerry King. That man screams walking testicle to me. And I don't mean that in a complimentary way.

If you form your opinions about a band or genre on who their fanbase are or how they behave, then there's practically no band you can listen to or like.

I understand the idea, though. That's probably why most of my friends aren't metalheads (or even musicians, let alone guitar players). Luckily I can listen to Seasons In The Abyss once in a while without feeling the need to carve Slayer's logo in my arm.

Slayer has always been a terrible band known more for their "satanic" imagery than they ever were for their music.
