So i've always had a love for CC's BC Rich with Patrick Nagel's girl art...scream total 80's to me

& I came across some interesting tribute art in the Nagel style a while back and thought.....well dam that would look cool on a geeetarrrr (plus leia/carrie fisher was my first crush at 9 years old......god dam she looked good in that slave outfit)

a few quick no care taken mock up's in PS...and yep these look pretty good (still waiting for a reply on if i could even use these from artist Craig Drake (this guys art is fucking amazing btw go check it out))

So anyone done this type of wrap/transfer ? either via DTF or liquid surface transfer fluids or something else ? if so how did it go ?

Cheers

I have not done them, but a direct to substrate printer (with a large enough platen) could do a good job with that. My employer had one that did some smaller projects on that looked decent. As long as the surface is mostly flat it should print really well.

Anyone I've personally know that wanted graphics got full vinyl wraps on the body and they looked great.

There's also these transfers that are used on a variety of substrates. I've had some stuff tested with it and it worked well but we didn't pursue that yet since we mostly do pad printing and some silk screening. Interesting process though.

Looking back at your mockups, the arm contour could be an issue with direct to substrate printing. It was with the unit we had... It print down a little ways, but there was a limit to what it could reach and retain image quality and color.

Honestly I think a vinyl would be best, or one of those Mark-it decals. The only thing with Mark-It is they might require some volume for purchases or it might be really expensive to just purchase one or two decals. It's been a while since I've looked into that for pricing.

Vinyl would be easy until you get to the round overs. Then it’s hell and bubble party.

Depending on the complexity of the design / body shape, a liquid surface transfer might be your best bet.

Contouring vinyl isn't hard with a silicone scraper and a heat gun to make it a bit more pliable. Automotive vinyl varies a lot in terms of how easy it is to work with, but I like 3M's stuff a lot.

I've never done it but absolutely heat and a squeegee. Just like they do on cars. Should be plenty of good info on the youtubes for doing that.

Hoh yeah if you go to the right vinyl, absolutely. The cheap one that you can print at home that is basically a glorified sticker won't bend properly even with heating.

Hey guys

Many thanks for all the feedback :) I had seen the DTF YT video posted above (it was that that kicked off my train of thought on this) & I found a DTF print shop locally that look like they will be able to do a print of the first/third mockup so i'lll try and pop in there later this week to see what they say

After watching highlineguitar's YT Im also going to grab a bottle of transfer medium to give some ink jet prints a test out, i only have an a4 printer but if i comic book/storyboard the images with gaps i should work out ok...now i have to build a gunslinger body and neck because it seem they are like rocking horse shit atm.....i also see see ali has some "GS clones" with Nagel' type art

& i think i found a 3rd to try which is also pretty cool and gets around the arm rest /bend issue

So...Coming back around to this ;)

Had a very harad time tracking down a Gunslinger, even the Retro "China" models are going for like £650 here in the UK (i had a Korean one a few yerars ago, nice guitar but it had QC issues)

While i was picking up some CNC bit's from Ali the other week i came across this.....

£150 (with a few discounts applied) shipped to my door...worth a punt to use as a base/modder,....Now i do quite like the mettalic blue patrick nagel and i'll see how good the print is once it arrives (should be here in about 3-5 days)

I ping'ed Drake about using his Leia images above but sofar no reply :( i used to paint landscapes is school that were pretty dam good but that was 35 years ago...Go Bob Ross, it seems that i can get A.I. to do it all for me!

Currently wraping my head around the prompts (simple requests can result in some crazy images! see below image were i asked for a "wide camera lens" and got a camera in the image..... )
but i've been having some success with a free Gen from https://perchance.org/text-to-image using the Waifu selection ;)

Seems im going to have to pay for a better service to get more control over the content/poses etc and to get some 300 DPI/Print qualitiy images, so any one here been using A.I. image creation services and who's worth paying, btw im not a prud at 51 nothing shocks me (i've been on the internet for 32 years) so if i need to access an "adult" AI tool to get the control i want im cool with that ;)
