or an ibanez expert

I just bought on the facebook marketplace a claimed 1999 RG520QS but the neck has been been perplexing me. the one i bought clearly has a one piece quarter sawn maple neck , when my research shows these guitars came with a 3 piece maple walnut neck . the serial indicates the neck was made in fujigen in 2001 , but even the 470 necks were 3 piece maple by this time. i was originally suspicious maybe the original wizard neck broke and was replaced with a 470 wizard II neck , but alas im stumped. even if it was a replacement neck I cant tell what guitar was using a one piece maple neck in 2001 ?

feel wise , I have a 1991 rg570 square heel and an rg7620 to compare it to , and it is not like the original wizard neck at all, and actually feels almost exactly like the 7620 neck in a 6 string

The regular RG520 came with 3 piece wizard neck.

The RG520QS was originalt delivered with 1 piece maple neck.

I used to play an 1989 RG550 before with a simular one piece wizard neck. I always felt like it feels slimmer than other wizard necks.

nevermind , seller admitted to changing the neck . stiill claims its from a 570 which still doesnt make sense though as even those werent one piece either in 2001.

Ibanez will generally use up whatever they have in stock, it’s possible they still had some one-piece necks kicking around before they fully switched.

i even took off the neck and the heel said " rg550R #2 " , which might indicate its a "super wizard neck" from a 550 instead of the regular wizard ? but again all my research from this era falls back on ibanez using 3 piece necks in 2001 and for a good while by this time. its also a rosewood fretboard 550 neck not a mapleif i didnt clarify

well in todays episode of sevenstring.org , ive officially narrowed it down to being an rg470 neck after finding the exact neck on ebay from an rg470 . however the seller says the original neck is on another ibanez and is swapping them back. has been an absolutely bizzarre experience
