As much as I like 6's I'd rather have a 7 due to built in 6 string and low chonkus abilities

Answer is obviously 7. While I play 6 strings exclusively right now, that’s just because I’ve got other stuff to throw money at before getting my ideal 7 string.

Whoever voted 6 is dumb. There I said it, shots fired. Sure, I enjoy playing my 6 strings much more than my 7s, we're talking only guitar here. You're telling me when you wanna go low you're fine with missing out on those skronky highs and weedly weedlys? Not me man.
I voted for 6. I guess I am dumb. Lol

I don't have any use for playing anything lower than dropped d normally (and it's rare), or c# for those sabbath tunes. Both work on a six just fine.

I tried a 7 and the extra neck width, flatter (comparatively) profiles, and the visual of seeing the low E as the second string screwing with me was enough.
I know I could get past it, but why? To have an extra string to never use? Lol

I voted 7s because it's what feels right to my hands, 25.5" scale length...

... one should play whatever one wants to... and can afford to...

Didn't you know? It is a popularity contest! You play what the forum says you should play! 🙃

If floating bridges weren't inherently stiffer with more strings I'd be much happier about choosing a 7 with a Floyd, even though I most frequently play 6 and 8 strings these days.

It just depends on how you play tbh. For example I'd hate having a low B in the way all the time if I played Metallica riffs in a cover band, it's just easier for me on a 6 where I don't need to worry that I'll hit that string or to adjust my technique. I also prefer downtuning a 6 to D if I'm gonna play in D tuning, sure a 7 in standard has the notes available but placed differently, for example a pedal note riff with the open 5th string on a 6 in D is suddenly a string skipping riff with the pedal note fretted on the low B, completely different. And yeah I could just tune a 7 down one step, but, that low A is gonna need to sound good, if I like a certain amount of tension I'll want a huge string, if I like not sounding like shit I might consider a baritone, what if I like floyds (baritone + floyd is a rare combo), what if my hands aren't that big... lots of reasons to prefer a 6 over a 7. If you play swedish 90s melodeath it's all in B tuning but the open F# becomes quite important in a lot of songs (F# being the fifth of B, melodeath, you know?) and I dunno about a 7 tuned to BEADF#BE with a high E you're not used to having there...

I could keep adding more reasons but I'll stop here.
