I'm thinking about converting my Ibanez Mikro bass to BEAD, using the Ibanez Mikro 5 string set (65,85,105,130). Do those gauges sound OK 28.6" scale?

I can't tell you whether you'll like it or not, but, if it were mine, I'd go an octave higher, not just because of the scale length, but because of the cheap stock pickups and electronics, too.

That might be fun, good idea!

I have zero experience with piccolo bass, but my initial thought is to string it:

32,44,58,80. That's about 35lbs on each string, slightly higher than a super light set. If this was a guitar, I'd buy a bunch of strings and figure out what I like. Bass strings are a little pricey, though.

To the original idea, yeah, I think it would work fairly well though will of course sound quite dark. Quite a lot lighter than a typical bass set, but heavier than what say a 9 string guitar at the same scale would usually use. Should make a good inbetween. I don't know how the bass performs, though!

The 80 set for BEAD an octave higher sounds like a great idea. Will feel much more like a typical bass. Prettymuch gives you the upper 4 of a regular 6 string bass capod at the 2nd fret.

My 27” TAM10 has been an interesting experience in the different tones from scale lengths, string construction, etc...

Always liked piccolo bass, so this should be cool.

You can use guitar strings on a Mikro, just thread a guitar string through the hole of a detached bass ball-end, to make the ball-end the right size.

Lol. This won't be tuned nearly low enough for that :)
