I wear mine really high, but it is what is comfortable to me and how I play the best. I'm also blind in my left eye so when I need to look at my left hand I have to look down farther than most people do as well. I do however feel the most comfortable when playing standing up, at least until my feet start hurting too much.

I wear mine to where I'm picking the strings about at navel level. And if I'm sitting I still use the strap so the guitar is in the same position as when standing because playing with it sittng on my leg isn't as comfortable, the guitar slips, and it affects my posture.

I play a lot sitting down in classical position. So when I use a strap, I play with the guitar pretty damn high up to replicate that.

Ibanez'es (Ibanezi) has the incredible effect of making everyone look ultra goofy when using the guitar up high.

The method i use for finding the right strap length is this:

Play sitting down in proper classical position. The position of the guitar here should remain the same once you stand up. If the guitar drops lower when you stand up, you need to shorten the strap.

I’m not saying this is the “correct” height for everyone but, i like it.

Id say thats about where I have mine...though I may need to go a bit higher than that for some riffs. Might as well make it permanent.

I think it would be better to "look cool" if you can pull off the low hanging guitar, but never at the expense of having a poor uncomfortable technique.

But yeah if you can pull it off hanging low, more power to you!

For me hanging it low is just way more comfortable. I mean, my arms hang down there anyway, it's just way easier on the arms for me.

And as I'm not playing any super technical stuff the playing doesn't suffer from it.

I also think that for live shows "looking good/cool" is a large part of it. I'm trying to give those people in the audience a good show, not a technically perfect performance.

There are some good points of view from both sides of the camp. Interesting.

I wear my straps when sitting to adjust it to where it just barely touches my leg. Then when I stand, the guitar is in the exact same spot.

Yeah mines not that high though it probably should be.

There is one thing that would definitely not look cool and that is a V or pointy guitar being worn up high like that lol.

Good point! The same opposite would be wearing a Kiesel Allan Holdsworth on your knees, shirtless and smoking a lil' cigarette while playing dad rock riffs.

As high as I can make the strap.

It depends. If I'm playing thrashy metal I let the strap all the way out and drag my guitar on the floor while I do a Hetfield squat. If I'm playing periphery as leaders djenty shred prog I tighten the strap all the way and wear the guitar as a necklace.

Usually, the bridge pickup is slighty higher than my belt. Feels comfy. Whenever a friend picks my guitar they usually say "OMG why do you play with your guitar so damn low?!" but they also forget that I'm 6f and quite fat, so of course it's gonna be "pop punk guitarist" low for them.

When I was in high school, and started playing live, I noticed that I would play worse live than at home, so I figured I'd try to make it as close to the same experience as possible. I adjusted my strap so that when I was standing the guitar was in exactly the same place on me as when I was sitting. I've done it that way ever since.

And, it turns out that I still suck live. It's classic stage fright, and nothing more.

When I started, I downpicked everything because that sounded more consistent to me, and the most comfortable way to do that for me is with about the top 1/4 of the guitar around belt buckle level.

When I started playing I didn't have a strap, but every concert/video I saw they were standing up so that's what I started doing as soon as I had a strap. Everything except for a C, G, and A was learned standing up, and to this day, I still can barely play a guitar sitting down.
