Hello everyone, I've been playing a Schecter Damien Elite 7FR for a long time and an looking to finally get another 7-string. The genres I play the most often are progressive metal and technical death metal. I'm trying to go for a tight, articulate, modern metal tone.

I'm trying to keep it in the $1000-1500 range. I was considering the new 2023 PRS Mark Holcomb SVN with the Scourge/ Scarlet picks, Ibanez Axion RGD71ALPA, and the Schecter Reaper 7. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Have you tried any of those three? I see the reaper is multiscale, is that more of what you're looking for?

There's also the ever popular SSO motto...

I haven't tried any of them yet, just putting my feelers out there. I'm not looking for multiscale specifically but I have played them and am open to picking one up.

I own a PRS Holcomb SVN 2021, and while I’ve seen other people say it has a baseball bat neck, after owning it awhile I’d say it’s closer to a D shape that fills out your hand nicely. It’s not slim that you can obviously feel the flatness of the D shape like some of the Schecters 6s I’ve played.
Sound-wise, Alpha/Omega pickups are great. I choose the guitar as my number one for high-gain or split coil cleans, and actually use the neck HB more than anything for leads/chords. New Mark PuPs seem interesting though!
The 20” radius fretboard was immediately something I loved and wish it was on all my guitars.
Make sure to get a good top if you choose one. I’ve seen some stinkers.

If you’re looking at Ibanez, skip the Axiom and find a used MIJ something or other.
