also interested in exploring these one amp-multiple gain level patches, particularly as I'm on a stomp

John Nathan Cordy has a decent demonstration of this with the Badonk -

but I'd love to know what else people are using (eg the above Voltage), but also cab + mic as well if rocking the internal offerings instead of third party IRs

So, I kinda "cheat" to get the sound I like since I use two different Helix instances and while recording I just double/quad track. I wish there was a way to get that sound all in one patch. I wouldn't be able to fully replicate that live without two different Helix units but luckily I'd be fine with just using my main which is the Helix 1 setup.

Full "cheat tone" is: Helix 1: Stupor OD--> Placater--> XXL V30/57 Dynamic and Moon T75/57 Dynamic-->4 Voice Chorus
Helix 2: Scream 808--> Placater--> Greenback 30/ 30 Dynamic and Moon T75/30 Dynamic--> 4 Voice Chorus
Scream 808--> Brit 2203--> XXL V30/57 Dynamic and Greenback 30/906 Dynamic--> 4 Voice Chorus

I posted the sound clip previously in here but just so it's with the settings explanation:

kindly asking if anyone could share some properly pissed off high gain tones - ideally stomp compatible

looking for inspiration...

conversely, what external distortions / preamps / boosts are you all running? been eyeing the Lichtlaerm Medusa and Gehenna...it's not really a type of pedal I've ever explored before though

I gotta try the Voltage again. They really gotta balance the levels between the new models and old. Hopefully with the next big update. I really liked some of the Catalyst amps. Really frustrating trying to demo back and forth. Been stuck on the 2203 but it wont really clean up. Even with the low gain input I don't think. Right now I'm using 4cm with the Origin again and using the new 65 Super for cleans.

FYI, if you own a physical Helix product, Helix Native is on sale for $49 right now. At this price, I figured I'd give it try.

I recently went this route with the LT. I used a Voltage as the single amp, clean to dirty. Turned out brilliant. Lots of DSP now for all the patches for my cover band.

Ahhh shit. Now I have to dust off my Helix and plug it in to something.
I haven't used my Helix in slightly less than two years. I just bought a couple of PA speakers and I forgot how fantastic the Helix is.
Cali IV is probably my favourite amp for lead tone
It's so good. It's my main preset. Sounds proper nasty (in a great way).
Did even more heavy tweaking tonight lol. Always fun trying to hunch over a floorboard while cross-legged on the ground with a guitar on your lap and throbbing lower back pain lmao

Anyway yeah, messed with the EVH more and replaced the Mark IV with a Horizon Drive + 2203 for shits and giggles and yeah it's uhhhh monstrous

You need to get the HX Edit software! Would highly recommend it. I very rarely change things on the device itself.

Things I want from a Helix update:

Fryette VHT Pitbull UL
Peavey 3120
Peavey JSX
Marshall Silver Jubilee
Krank Rev1+
Krank Krankenstein
Yamaha SPX90
Marshall MF280
Marshall MF400
And something more suitable for metal bass tones. I don't know what that'd be but I've never gotten bass tones I've been happy with from the Helix. I have a "The Growler" plugin that is my 1 stop shop and if I could get that in the Helix I'd be set.

I'm still shocked they haven't added the SPX90 Symphonic patch. It's fucking Yamaha lol. When they didn't have L6 they had the Symphonic chorus on all of their modelers and mulfiFX

I'm hoping they eventually add more high gain Marshalls like the 2555 and JVM OD1/2. And then add a Mesa Mark IIC+ and/or Mark III. Those are my most-wants and I'd never need to use anything else again lol. Other models like the Laney GH/VH, JSX, Ultra+ are just bonuses.

EDIT: Oh yeah, defeatable cab sim on the rotary cabs. The only one that has this is the Yamaha one, and it kinda sucks.

I've had good luck using the Obsidian (Darkglass) into the Svt Pro model. Maybe with a Rat or HM2 in front if I want something real filthy.
I also had good luck just running the Darkglass or BDDI into a cab sim. I know it's not the intended way, but it works for me lol. And yeah if I want more growl I'll either crank the dirt on the pedal or add a 2nd distortion.

And honestly yeah, the stock bass amps are great. SVTs, the Mesa 400, GK 800RB... Even added the SVT4, Mesa Carbine, and Orange AD200. all of those rule for metal tones tbh. If you need more grit, run a BDDI into them. Pretty much the staple high-gain bass rig.

...i need to get a bass again lol. All this talk makes me want to hunt down a Yamaha or Ibanez BTB
