Im down for the solid state clout. I made a lunchbox head out of a Peavey Envoy combo amp. I only use the clean channel, i don't rate the distortion side of things too much so i run a Tube Screamer MINI into a BOSS HM3 for the br00talz. Reverb tank was also removed due to being too close to the transformer and picking up wild amounts of hum.

I think any of these old Made in USA or Made in UK solid state's are worth a shot considering how cheap you can find some of them. Usually very robust too.

Oh the old Gallien Krueger 250 series amps can get surprisingly heavy. If you use the internal trim pots you can tweak them to have stupid fucking gain on tap.

Or do like I used to do and boost it with a Boss SD1. Insane amount of br00tz for an amp from 1984.
Oh forgot to mention that Chuck Schuldiner would use these live in the 80s and early 90s when he couldn't haul around his JCM800 and before he started using the Valve states.

Solid state stuff can bring the beef for sure, you just need the right gear. What do you think all the nightclubs use?

Counts in my book!
Pretty sure the “modeling” in those is just complex analog solidstate. Possibly digitally controlled? Not sure

Nah, they're digital. If you Google pics of the guts it's just a power supply, amp, and DSP board.

Oh wow, even the older ones?

All the gut shots I've seen. Granted I haven't delved incredibly deep.

I just remember when they came out Peavey's ad copy was somewhat vague and implied that these "weren't just digital" or something to that effect, so folks on TGP or HCAF posted some gut shots basically proving they're modeling amps.

Nothing wrong with that of course. Digital gear is cool too.

I'm surprised no one brought up the Blug stuff. The Amp1 stuff is fucking great and it's pretty much mostly solid state, except for a tube in the power section to give it a bit more tubiness. Basically how the Randall hybrid stuff (t2, v2, G3) worked
