Exactly!

I saw a couple of videos last night and thought "That Professional model looks pretty damn nice. Wonder what the price is?" thinking it would be like $1500-$1600.

Saw prerelease models on Sweetwater at $2200 and just rolled my eyes and moved on. Out of their damn minds at that price and Yamaha does not have the luxury of frequent buyers affluent enough or willing to spend regardless of price that ESP tends to have.

The emblem of this whole scenario is the new Yamaha line, Pacifica models for about 2.5-3k

But you are talking about the Professional, right? The new Made in Japan Pacificas. Yamahas Made in Japan have been expensive for a long time already and some of the best guitars made out there. Actually, they are keeping the prices quite consistent for the last 5 years or so. This new Pacificas MIJ are about 300€ more than two years old (I believe) Revstar Professional models (Revstar for 1800€ while these new Paciicas for 2100€). Guitars with their A.I.R. treatment, stainless steel frets, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Not much more than a 2023 Ibanez Prestige and I trust Yamaha's QC much more if you ask me.

Still not buying any though.

PS: This is the non-MIJ version, the standard plus... Beautiful and priced better than many other imports. 99% sure is made in Indonesia like almost every electric Yamaha. Great craftmanship actually.

I hope they offer some very clear explanation of when this takes effect (serial number range or some kind of paper work with the guitar). Otherwise, seems like it'll be a bit of a mess.

Though it makes sense to switch over. It was odd having some models with SS frets and some not based only on the finish.

To be honest, it seems like too many people here are acting entirely oblivious to how the overwhelming majority of the world is experiencing the most significant inflation rates since the early 1900s. I don't think ESP is pulling a fast one here, I think they're just adjusting according to the unfortunately terrible economic climate worldwide.
Yeah seeing the reactions in all the 2024 NAMM threads is like reading a bunch of people coming from some time warp from 2009 or something. It's really bad regarding inflation rates since covid lockdowns.

I've had three guitars in my life before I registered on SSO. (15 years holy...) Since then, I've had... lots more. Lots. Not as much as many, but they just got more lots than I did. If I signed up today I'd be bankrupt in 5 years instead.
Same. I do wonder if we'll see a bunch of people dump their guitars onto the used market when the economy slows down, and that guitar they bought during the pandemic, now sitting in the corner gathering dust, starts to look like a good way to earn money. Maybe then we'll get some cheaper prices. At least on used gear. Until then, companies will price higher because the market is bearing it.

You guys are acting like these price increases happened overnight, we’ve been trending towards this for sometime. Buy used if you don’t like it.
*looks at current used ESP prices* Is it you Marie Antoinette? kidding, it just blows my mind that my ESP Alexi I bought used for $950 10 years ago can go for over $3.5K these days (not that I am going to sell it)..

With prices rising every so steadily (and in some cases ridiculously) I feel I’ll be going the warmoth route for the next purchase.
Same. If I'm gonna pay $1.5k+ for LTDs I might as well pick what I want + have some fun and put it all together.

See? You don't even have to get proper vintage gear to make good guitar investments. Just buy and wait a decade, maybe less.

That Klliher looks nice. but not 2K nice. this hobby is going to be elitist in 2/3 yrs. good luck kids, better get good jobs.
And yeah we could see some price increase coming but not to that extreme in like what ? 2/3 yrs? covid/ Ukraine/shipping cost/gas/primary products but cost of life has gone crazy since then.....in a pretty short window.

It's the global trade uncertainty that really jacks with prices. Combined with a large wave of people retiring around the same time and resultant demographic factors. Leaves us with high prices for corner cut products, comparatively. Not to get political, but the international protection of shipping lanes has been a bit...neglected...since even before the plague and still hangs around the neck of the global economy. Wood isn't actually more expensive, neither is labor or hardware. It's the facilitation of them into an instrument that went through the roof for aforementioned reasons. You can bet just as much money that if/when those costs to produce go down the item cost to the customer will still stay high. So who knows what the situation is currently for companies, but regardless that's the situation on our end as consumers. Unless someone really strikes when the iron is hot and goes 90's Ibanez with cheap and fantastic guitars in large volume prices will stay high. It's not "fair" that folks who are diligent with their money have to pay impulsive prices, but that's the world we all live in. Just be glad nobody needs a guitar to live.

That or aliens abducted all the world's smart people in a single year. I haven't looked at the real data, but I'm still here so it checks out at a glance.

200 less for a brand new Japan prestige with hard case, ebony fretboard, stainless steel frets, gold hardware, full pearl binding, and fishman pickups that somehow cause every 600$ Indo guitar to jump to 1700$.

Seriously fuck your 2200$ Ltd.
"Japan". All the parts are made in Indo factories, IIRC.

Gotoh bridges are still made in Japan. Same with most tuners, though some of the cheaper lines and the buttons are made at Sung-Il in South Korea.

The hardcases are made by TKL in China if that counts.

Fujigen is still building these from scratch, for now at least. In another 10 years who knows.

Maybe you're thinking the Premium series or the old MIK Prestige stuff from the early aughts.
