Probably the best album they've put out (in my opinion) and a high-water mark when it comes to black metal. It very much feels like a Deafheaven album, but it's a more cohesive fusion of all of the elements they've been exploring over the years. It's less of the "here's a shoegaze song" and "here's a black metal song" of their previous albums. And it's a great album experience. The slow songs give way to the more urgent songs in a very satisfying way.
It's also quite metal-leaning, so it should please the purists.
Great album. I would've liked to see another album of them exploring the Infinite Granite sound a bit more since I really dug it, but this is so fucking good. Best since Sunbather.
I think this is their best record so far - they learned to be a little bit more concise on Infinite Granite, and I think it made all these songs hit harder/better for it. Will have to catch them on this tour.
I really like some of the songs but so far having a tough time "getting" the album as a whole. I think they could have cut one or two songs for the whole thing to feel more concise. It's weird cause it's a similar run length to most of their records and they are my favourite band! Just can't quite put my finger on it.
