Hi guys and girls, I did a lesson on how to do the black metal tremolo picking used to play chords:

I developed my technique by watching a lot of Emperor live videos, and I think Ihsahn uses about the same style to play chords.
It is based on rotation motion of the forearm rather than moving your entire arm as you often see people do. I think it works well, gives a lot of control and enables 16th notes on up to 3 - 4 strings at the same time, which you don't seem to be able to with other approaches, or at least not without hurting yourself when playing entire songs in this style.

I would love to know how you go about it and what you prefer.
Chime in and lets get some black metal info sharing on technique! \m/

Good idea. Rotation of the hand seems faster and healthier than wrist bending, keeps the wrist straight too. Less mass to move than moving the whole arm from the elbow.
