For what it's worth, I go 7 string down 1.5 steps so G#, C#, etc and use 6 string 12-60 set + 80. Just tried to drop F, seemed too floppy for my taste. Guitar is 27" Ibanez RG7EXFX.

I use 12-80 on a 26.5-28" multiscale - works for me really well for F#

+1

I tune to Drop F# + low C# on a 28" 8 String and my F# is an 80 too.
Around 20lbs of tension and the sound has so much clarity and twang, i love it

For whatever it's worth, instead of dreaming up a tuning and trying to make sense of it, I think the much easier path is to experiment from a starting point with which you are familiar and then push until the tradeoffs get too problematic for you. I believe you can push things further that way anyway, but mainly, you'll have a much better grasp over why you get the tone you do.
