Anyone had a chance to check out one of these?

https://armoredamps.com/product/sabot/

I am on the verge of impulse buying one based off of the limited amount of reviews i have heard/seen.

Something about boutique stuff (especially at this price point) makes me want to pull out the credit card for a beating.

Feels like Armored might blow up and then I'll be wishing i hadn't waited.

It doesn't sound that unique. But it has some cool controls and a nice power soak. Is it supposed to be one of those modded high gain plexis?

yeah it's basically a jose type plexi vibe, but it has a bunch of interesting modern features. lots of clipping/voicing switches and a built in overdrive (or at least one variant of it I've seen has that).

reviews say they sound good. built very well...

but any builder who advertises their amps as point to point when they are not point to point gets an instant blacklist from me.

I think the sentinel has the built in od and noise gate. The sabot just has that attack knob. Sort of like a tight control.

I couldn't get rid of the one I bought fast enough. One of the worst amps I've ever owned tbh. No balls what so ever, noisy as hell, hated the voicing(that's a personal thing of course), the loop was horrible, and build quality was meh.

Did it sound like a modded Marshall? From the demos in Youtube, it sounded like a 6l6 amp.

Not to my ears. It has it's on thing going in terms of voicing and gain structure, and I didn't care for it at all. The first one I disliked so much it went back and the builder and I were certain something was wrong with it. Was super loose and undefined, but he checked it out and said there was no issues. The second one he sent me was a bit tighter/more articulate but still not great.

At this point, if you don't like the voicing section of an amp, you can always throw a preamp pedal in the loop. I use the Ceres but the Victory offerings are also fantastic. It may feel crappy to throw a $400 pedal in front of a $2k amp head but it can salvage a purchase you're not happy with if you find yourself unable to move or return it.

Seeing as you can do that with literally any amp (with a good loop I guess) it still wouldn't make me feel better lol. Plus after spending a bunch on an amp, then having to spend $400 more just to make it sound good wouldn't make me feel better in the slightest.

A Ceriatone Molecular would probably beat a Sabot. But I say, give it a try. Killertone got a good sound off a Sabot in his Youtube channel. It has a lot of switches and features and that means there are more ways to ef up the sound.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a great fix and it would suck but I have no idea about the ability to return it if you don’t like it or what kind of resale it would have with the lack of name recognition.

@MetalHead40 wow, that kinda slows down my enthusiam to order one at the end of this month. For reference, what amps do you like? Did the sabot remind you of anything?
I mean voicings are always something subjective, tastes vary. But what you said about the fx loop and the build quality....

BrutalRob,

For reference:

Wizard MCII-current and favorite amp to date.
Engl Savage 120
Fryette 50CL Pitbull
Mesa Mark III
Bogner Uber Rev blue
6505

The Sabot just did nothing for me. I knew within the first 15 minutes of playing it that it was going down the road. Just sounded horrible to me. No low end what so ever and had a very small sonic footprint. I've owned 30+ amps and have been able to get tones I enjoyed out of every one with a little tweaking, an od, and an eq in the loop, but this amp just plain sounded awful to me.
